Uniforms and their History The Navy Uniform distinguishes the officer as a professional, a member of a military service over 200 years old Rank/Grade - Unlike enlisted personnel, officers hold grade (Ensign, Lieutenant, Commander, etc.). One officer can out-rank another based solely on date of rank (DOR)

Travel in Uniform: 

Travel in Uniform SDB’s are always appropriate. For travel between regions, wear either the uniform of the day for destination or point of departure.

Number of Uniforms: 

Number of Uniforms Two or more working uniforms. One or two CNT Khaki’s / Whites. One set of SDB’s & Chokers. Two of each color shoes. ALL DEPENDENT UPON JOB AND LOCATION.

Uniform Appearance: 

Uniform Appearance Clean, pressed, with all required accessories. Nothing sticking out of pockets. Proper insignia and badges.

Uniform Appearance at Inspections: 

Uniform Appearance at Inspections Greased uniform – an expression used to denote a uniform set aside for inspections. Should be perfect or nearly so. For you: May not have enough uniforms to have a greased. Still, inspections here are infrequent. Have a clean, dry-cleaned, tailored uniform for each one.

Grooming Standards : 

Grooming Standards Neat, clean, well groomed Above ears and around neck shall be tapered. Hair on back of neck should not touch collar. Maximum length of hair is 4 inches. Hair coloring must look natural and complement the individual.

Grooming Standards Jewelry While in uniform, only one ring per hand is authorized, plus a wedding ring. Necklaces will not show above the shirt line.

Grooming Standards: 

Grooming Standards Women’s Hair Clean, neatly shaped, and arranged in an attractive feminine and professional style. Faddish and exaggerated styles are prohibited. When in uniform, hair on back of head may touch, but not fall below, the lower edge of the collar.

Grooming Standards Conspicuous rubber bands, combs, and pins are not authorized. When worn, hair ornaments shall not present a safety or FOD hazard. A maximum of two barrettes, similar to hair color, may be used to pin hair.

Grooming Standards Shall be applied in good taste so that colors blend with natural skin tone and enhance natural features. Lipstick colors shall be conservative and complement the individual. Long, false eyelashes shall not be worn when in uniform.
