What is propaganda? Where is Propaganda? : It can mainly be seen on television, on the radio, the internet, and posters. It can also be intertwined into literary works such as short stories and novels. Where is Propaganda? How can we view propaganda? : Propaganda can take the form of leaflets, posters, TV, and radio broadcasts. It may also extend to any other medium. How can we view propaganda? History of Propaganda : History of Propaganda It was used a war-time weapon during 1914 around World War I. Homeland security poster from the United States. Propaganda- World War II : Propaganda- World War II Nazi propaganda was used during World War II to persuade people to go against the Jew. American propaganda was used to persuade people to go against the Japanese in America during WWII. “Long Live Germany” Bandwagon : Bandwagon An appeal to others to join the crowd in order to be on the winning side. Card Stacking : Card Stacking Presenting only the information that is positive while omitting information that is contrary to that idea Glittering Generality : Glittering Generality Emotionally appealing words but does not present a concrete argument. Name Calling : Name Calling The use of derogatory language or carries a negative connotation. Euphemism : Euphemism Substitution of a mild or pleasant expression or stance for a more harsh and blunt one. Plain Folks : Plain Folks Attempting to convince the public that one’s views reflect those of the common person Snob Appeal : Snob Appeal Suggesting that association with a person or product can make you special. Testimonial : Testimonial Use of a quote or endorsement that attempts to connect a famous or respectable person to a product or item. Transfer : Transfer Projecting positive or negative qualities of a person, place, or entity to another to make the second more acceptable or to discredit it. Patriotism : Patriotism Suggesting that purchase of the product will show love or devotion to the country. Hidden Fears : Hidden Fears Suggesting that a product or person can protect you against something unpleasant or dangerous Repetition : Repetition Repeating a name, product, or slogan over and over again in the same advertisement Facts and Figures : Facts and Figures Using tests statistics, statistics, or information that sounds “scientific” to prove that one person or product is better than the other Unfinished Comparisons : Unfinished Comparisons Comparing a person or product to another without providing the other half of the comparison Loaded Words : Loaded Words Using broad promises or phrases that do not really mean anything.
