English Opens Doors Program
The English Opens Doors (EOD) program was launched in 2003 by the Chile Ministry of Education to improve the quality and availability of English language teaching in Chile with the aim of enabling Chilean citizens to communicate in English. (Max Jarpa, EOD, MINEDUC, 2007)
VOLUNTEER PROGRAM:
Volunteers work with English Language Teachers throughout Chile
(no teaching certification necessary; must be a native English speaker only)
Volunteers may choose 10-week summer programs, or 6-, 8-, or 10-month placements.
Transportation to Santiago, Chile, and back to the U.S. is paid by the volunteer; all other transportation within Chile is paid by the program
Room and board plus a stipend is paid to volunteers; they have a host family placement.
Volunteers have an all-expenses paid 2-week orientation in Santiago which includes English language methods, cultural orientation, and “survival” Spanish. Dr. Barfield just returned from Chile; she will be offering an optional online course at MSU-B for any interested volunteers this summer 08

YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE A TEACHER; ALL SORTS OF PEOPLE VOLUNTEER (DOCTORS, STUDENTS, FACULTY, TEACHERS, PLUMBERS, ETC.)
