WHAT IS A "JAMMER"? Jammer is a device by which we can create a temporary “dead zone "in there immediate proximity. There are three type of jammer . Radar jammer Radio jammer Cell phone jammer

Literature survey:

Literature survey The technique used in most of the commercial jammers is based on noise attack.[1] Cell phone jammer is a completely an analog circuit.[2] Designing of cell phone jammer is a step by step procedure.[2] PIC16F877A microcontroller is used to control the cell phone jammer. And programming for PIC is made using Mikro C compiler.[3]

INTRODUCTION:

INTRODUCTION A cell phone jammer is an instrument used to prevent cellular phones from receiving and transmitting the mobile signals to a base station. When used, the jammer effectively disables cellular phones in the area . A cell phone jammer provides the ultimate solution in any area where cellular communications frequently cause nuisance either by loud incoming call rings or resulting loud telephone conversations.

INTRODUCTION (CONT…) Cell phone jamming devices were originally developed for law enforcement and the military to interrupt communications by criminals and terrorists. Examples include: security zones, public transport, classrooms, temples, TV & radio stations, jails, govt. buildings, military bases, industries etc.

JAMMING BASICS:

JAMMING BASICS A cell phone works by communicating with its service network through a cell tower or base station. Cell towers divide a city into small areas, or cells. As a cell-phone user drives down the street, the signal is handed from tower to tower.

A jamming device transmits on the same radio frequencies as the cell phone, disrupting the communication between the phone and the cell-phone base station in the tower.It's called a denial-of-service attack .

HOW JAMMERS WORK Jammers block cell phone use by sending out radio waves along the same frequencies that cellular phones use at a high enough power that the two signals collide and cancel each other out.

HOW JAMMERS WORK(CONT….) This causes interference with the communication of cell phones and the towers to render the phones unusable. On most phones, the network would appear out of range . So Jammers work by either disrupting phone to tower frequencies or tower to phone frequencies.

Type "A" Device: JAMMERS This type of device comes equipped with several independent oscillators transmitting ’jamming signals’ capable of blocking frequencies used by paging devices as well as those used by cellular systems control channels for call establishment

Type “B” Device: INTELLIGENT CELLULAR DISABLERS :

Type “B” Device : INTELLIGENT CELLULAR DISABLERS Unlike jammers, Type ”B” devices do not transmit an interfering signal on the control channels. The device, when located in a designated ’quite’ area, functions as a ’detector’. It has a unique identification number for communicating with the cellular base station.

Type “C” Device (Intelligent Beacon Disablers) :

Type “C” Device (Intelligent Beacon Disablers ) Unlike jammers, Type C devices do not transmit an interfering signal on the control channels. The device, when located in a designated ’quiet’ area, functions as a ’beacon’ and any compatible terminal is instructed to disable its ringer or disable its operation, while within the coverage area of beacon.

Type “D” Device (Direct Receive & Transmit Jammers) :

Type “D” Device (Direct Receive & Transmit Jammers) This jammer behaves like a small, independent and portable base station, which can directly interact intelligently or unintelligently with the operation of the local mobile phone. The jammer is predominantly in receive mode and will intelligently choose to interact and block the cell Phone directly if it is within close proximity of the jammer.

Type “E’’ Device (EMI Shield - Passive Jamming) :

Type “E’’ Device (EMI Shield - Passive Jamming ) This technique is using EMI suppression techniques to make a room into what is called Faraday cage. Although labor intensive to construct, the Faraday cage essentially Blocks or greatly attenuates, virtually all electromagnetic radiation from entering or leaving the cage - or in this case a target room.

RANGE OF A JAMMER:

RANGE OF A JAMMER The actual range of the jammer depends on its power and the local environment, which may include hills or walls of a building that block the jamming signal. The power depends on proximity to towers, indoor and outdoor settings, even temperature and humidity play a role. Most jammers only have a range of about 50 to 80 feet and will only effectively jam your immediate surroundings. Low-powered jammers block calls in a range of about 30 feet (9 m).

RANGE OF A JAMMER( cont …) Higher-powered units create a cell-free zone as large as a football field. Units used by law enforcement can shut down service up to 1 mile (1.6 km) from the device. They are available to cover large structures like office buildings, theaters and churches. They look like a miscellaneous box with wires sticking out & are usually mounted on walls or ceilings .

Advantages We can provide security to V.I.P’s from the anti-social elements. By using cell phone jammers we can maintain law and order for maintaining peace. By cell phone jammers we can’t disturb other people in the public places like restaurants, shopping places. It is very necessary to use cell phone jammers in naxal feared places. This helps the authorities to work their duty softly.

Advantages (cont.….) By using cell phone jammers in the vehicles, we can overcome accidents problem which is very helpful to the people. Works for both GSM and CDMA networks. No loss of data due to backup battery.

Disadvantages :

Disadvantages Cost oriented. Requires special hardware. People feel inconvenience. V.I.P.’s may lose some important calls .

Future scope of Jamming Technology While the law clearly prohibits using a device to actively disrupt a cell-phone signal, there are no rules against passive cell-phone blocking . Companies are working on devices that control a cell phone but do not "jam the signal.

Conclusion :

Conclusion Conclusion Every technology has good aspect as well as bad aspect the important thing is ,how we are using it. Cell phone jammers are very useful to the society from the anti-social elements. We can save our national leaders. Cell phone jammers prevent the students from carrying cell phones to the colleges. As every thing goes fine, it is very necessary to implement in all the colleges jammer hypothetically could be used by criminals who break into homes and want to prevent any calls for help. However, jammers can also be used for good.
