Program Objectives: 

Program Objectives Instill ethics, sportsmanship , and responsibility. Develop leadership skills. Promote the safe storage and handling of firearms and archery equipment. Expand 4-H membership.

California 4-H Shooting Sports Participation: 

California 4-H Shooting Sports Participation 3,103 4-H members were enrolled in the project during 2005-2006. 376 4-H leaders were enrolled in the project during 2005-2006. 522 4-H members participated in the 2006 State Postal Match. 111 4-H leaders participated in the 2006 State Postal Match.

The California 4-H Shooting Sports Program currently offers six disciplines.:

National Policy on Paintball: 

National Policy on Paintball The purpose of the 4-H Shooting Sports Program is to promote youth development through the safe and responsible use of archery equipment and firearms. Pointing any type of firearm including air guns, laser guns or laser sighting devices at any person or any humanoid target is inappropriate. The National 4-H Shooting Sports Committee is unequivocally opposed to such use in the 4-H program.

Youth Participation Criteria: 

Youth Participation Criteria Must be 9 years old or in the 4th grade by January 1st. Project must be instructed by leader certified in the discipline being offered. Subject to approval of project leader and member’s ability to follow instruction and safety rules. Participation in Muzzle Loading discipline requires a minimum of one year prior participation in another discipline.

Opportunities for Teens: 

Opportunities for Teens Teen Leaders may participate in training w/adults. State Incentive & Recognition Award program. 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador program.

Adult Volunteer Criteria: 

Adult Volunteer Criteria Must be a 4-H leader at local level. Must be 21 years of age. Must have certification from 4-H or a recognized organization.

Becoming a 4-H Shooting Sports Leader: 

Becoming a 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Steps Involved. Be a 4-H leader in your home county. Possess approved certification or receive training in your desired discipline. Submit an application to the State Coordinator.

Code of Ethics: 

Code of Ethics Respect participants. Set a good example. Respect the dignity of each participant regardless of ability. Conduct program in a professional and ethical manner. Adhere to guidelines & be technically competent.
