That is an AMAZING presentation!!! I can see how effectively it can be used in general education with students who are struggling with mental multiplication. I LOVE IT!!! So now I have to use it with my students....it's like magic math!

How Multiplication Works… : 

How Multiplication Works… 2 X 3 This means 2 groups of 3 Put the 2 groups together… how many do you have? Count… one, two, three, four, five, six So, the answer is: 2 X 3 = 6

Lattice Multiplication : 

Lattice Multiplication 2 X 3 Here’s the box… it’s got a spot for the tens and a spot for the ones Remember, 2 X 3 = 6 (6 is in the ones place) So, we’ll put 0 in the tens spot (top) and 6 in the ones spot (bottom)

Let’s try double digits : 

Let’s try double digits 14 X 56 Set it up like this:

Step 1 : 

Step 1 14 X 56 First, we do 1 X 5

Step 2 : 

Step 2 14 X 56 First, we do 1 X 5 Then, we do 4 X 5

Step 3 : 

Step 3 14 X 56 First, we do 1 X 5 Then, we do 4 X 5 Then, we do 1 X 6

Step 4 : 

Step 4 14 X 56 First, we do 1 X 5 Then, we do 4 X 5 Then, we do 1 X 6 Then, the last one: 4 X6

Step 5 : 

Step 5 Now, just add down the diagonal stripes… Start at the bottom and work your way up the stripes

The Answer We get our answer by reading down the left side and across the bottom (ignore the first 0)
