Switzerland’s Cross Shield Coat-of-Arms : Vertically Symmetrical Geometric outline breaks down into a rectangle + half circle The Cross in the center is not able to be made using the cross shape tool so we must use two rectangles instead Switzerland’s Cross Shield Coat-of-Arms Adding an image to the Master Slide will add the design to all slides. : Adding an image to the Master Slide will add the design to all slides. Many companies play with symmetry and repetition in their logos : The old Sony logo uses a symmetry around the point of origin and shows a repetition of triangles The Windows logo uses the same symmetry and repeats the curved panels The Nintendo64 logo is not symmetrical but plays with repetition to create a faux 3D image. Many companies play with symmetry and repetition in their logos Fractal Geometry plays a large part of nature, playing on repetition to infinity : Art teachers may say, “Everything in nature can be broken down into basic shapes.” Physics and Fractal Geometry would say “Clouds are not spheres, mountains are not cones, coastlines are not circles, bark is not smooth, lightning does not travel in a straight line” –Mandelbrot, a pioneer of Fractals A Fractal, simply put, is something that branches off of itself and continues to branch off from its branches an infinite number of times. Fractal Geometry plays a large part of nature, playing on repetition to infinity Fractal Geometry in its simplest form : The Mandelbrot Set where the smallest branch is the same shape as the largest Z 1 = Z lim 0->2 + C where C is a point on a graph with the complex number in the form a+bi Simple, right? Fractal Geometry in its simplest form Examples of Fractal Geometry and repetition in Nature : Leaf veins branch off more times than is countable and see-able Lightning branches and arcs up to an infinite amount of times Clouds can possess an infinite amount of curves Examples of Fractal Geometry and repetition in Nature Manmade objects in Hawaii : Mostly just symmetrical The capitol building plays with repetition in the design of the columns and roof grates. Manmade objects in Hawaii Two other examples from Swiss Culture : The Swiss guard’s uniform shows a repetition of colors (and yes, they still use spears) The Swiss Center of North America plays with the Swiss’ white cross and places it within a repetition of four circles Two other examples from Swiss Culture Resources : http://classes.yale.edu/Fractals/Panorama/Nature/NatFracGallery/Gallery/Leaf.gif http://classes.yale.edu/Fractals/Panorama/Nature/NatFracGallery/Gallery/Clouds.gif http://classes.yale.edu/Fractals/Panorama/Nature/NatFracGallery/Gallery/Lightning.gif http://www.chanceandchoice.com/mand.gif http://farm1.static.flickr.com/39/112212557_a4a2bda025.jpg http://www.bpovia.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2008/12/sony_logo.jpg http://ceoworld.biz/ceo/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/microsoft_vista-logo.png http://www.islandartcards.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/alohatwr1.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c7/Hawaii_State_Capitol,_Honolulu.jpg/800px-Hawaii_State_Capitol,_Honolulu.jpg http://k53.pbase.com/u41/goislands/large/27007894.100MauiJan99.jpg http://www.swissfest09.com/partners/swiss_logo.jpg http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/b/bd/Swiss_Guard.jpg Resources You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
