I love the way this cover used a monochrome contrast to create an eerie effect, its eye-catching, despite its lake of color the bold film title stands out. The second R in the title is the wrong way round. This immediately shows the potential buyer that this is a strange different kind of film, this technique attracts a certain type of audience to it the image itself is a close up of an eye which is open but the pupil and iris are gone, this make the image look abstract and give of a feel of juxtaposition, think also because the skin looks weathered and cracked along with the hand print where the pupil and iris should be makes the eye look slightly like a window. There aren't many words but the shortness of words make the film look more intriguing and make a potential buyer curious to know more. The title is interesting it looks old and weathered even just by the title anyone could tell whom the audience it is intended for and also its genre, A thriller/ horror film. The decapitated lady on the front also gives it away. Once again we see short sentences and a lack of quantity in the text. The color on the case is desaturated color, due light but the skin has been artificially brightened to show all the cracks in the skin. I Like this effect a lot because from just this picture You get a sense of horror . The picture is literary hunting.
Slide 4:
This DVD cover uses a three colour, colour scheme. I really like this because it sets a mood and gives the potential buyer an idea of what the film is about, the picture looks a though it has been taken from the film itself so it gives us an idea what the film will be like. Apart from it being in grey scale which is partly so that the image sticks to the colour scheme but also to create a affect of distress an tension. The title uses two font types this separates the two words making the stand separately. And makes the words stand out even more. I don’t like the fact it looks overly basic, it doesn't look like much thought has gone into the design. The is very little text, which is even less if you don't count the title. The colour scheme has been made overly bright, we see the background to be bare trees which look rather sinister. The black text on the white back ground make the name of the DVD stand out, also the main actress in the film has her name in red which make it stand out almost as much as the title . This has been done because she is a very famous actress, and so many people would simply buy the film because she is in it, this is also why the main characters face is the main picture because if someone doesn't recognise the name they will recognise her face. There is some text but apart from the title there isn't much.
final Decision :
final Decision Through my research I have found several good idea I may use when making my own DVD cover. I found that many if not all of the DVD covers I look at have one main image normally a face or a persons facial features, this is used particularly in thriller DVD cases, this was a constant feature, I also found that they could look quite abstract due to the faces either distortion on special effects used. Dark saturated colour were often a part of the colour scheme either this or a black and white (also known as grey scale or monochrome), this is something I will defiantly use when creating my DVD cover. All of the title on every DVD case have title that use colour, font and wording to make them stand out. There are also short poetic like word are used on the DVD case to create a sense of mystery and intrigue for the audience before even starting to watch it, I think this is a good selling point because it makes the movie sound interesting. In general the DVD case has to be a good selling point because if the DVD case is poorly designed and made it would put of the buyer even before they know what its about and also if the film is not great the you can still make good DVD sales in the DVD case make the film look good.
Other essential features I need for my DVD cover are things like the films rating, so it hits a target audience. Another feature I quite like are the rating they add on to them, given by things like magazines. There main actress name (My Name) will also be put on there quite boldly. Like on some of the other DVD cases I have looked at. Our production company logo will also be put on there, reasonably boldly

Thriller posters :
Thriller posters Posters have a lot of the same conventions that a DVD cover would have, such as large images of main characters, large bold title, actors names, production companies, . Other things that aren't on a DVD cover but are one a promotional poster, like release date. When I make my own promotional poster I will take all these things into account so to make the best poster I can.
