Second Life (otherwise known as SL) is Multi User Virtual Environment (MUVE) created, and owned by its Residents that offers a platform for communication, business, education, and organizational development to anyone who wants to try it out.

Virtual worlds* provide an immersive virtual learning environment (VLE) that supports constructivist learning by allowing for the emergence of knowledge-building communities within a multi media context . While there are a variety of applications, 3D virtual worlds typically provide an immersive,  online, interactive multi-media experience that includes: the illusion of 3D space; avatars as visual representations of end users; and an interactive synchronous chat environment for communication. Avatar Express yourself ! Residents create visual representations of themselves inworld. Gestures and animation can be used to express feelings, enhance communication with others allowing for rich, social interaction. Residents can communicate with each other though chatting with text or through audio. You can also create communities by forming groups and communicating through them
