What is Poetry? :

What is Poetry? Poetry can ’ t be described in one word. Poetry isn ’ t a story, it might be similar to a story but they are different. It explains emotions or feelings. The emotion/feeling that is given in poetry is stronger than stories. Poetry is put into stanzas . When people think of poetry they expect it to rhyme but it doesn't have to. Most poems don ’ t rhyme at all. Some poems tell a story some just have emotions that build up. Some are very detailed, and some just touch your heart. Poetry can be long, short or any size really. It can have big letters to show how much excitement there is or the poem can have small letters for it to show that it could be sad. There is no such thing as a perfect poem. A poem can ’ t have every little thing that it needs. Poetry is a elegant way of writing or speaking.

Spring Equinox:

Spring Equinox Spring Equinox is written by Peter Blue Cloud. Peter Blue Cloud brings his poems alive when he introduces his detailed words about nature. He talk so gently about how he feels and each word brings out a new meaning to the poem. When he gives all the little details he catches every one's attention. Who doesn't love Spring???

Spring Equinox:

Spring Equinox Now day and night sit balanced. From a silence that seemed forever, the first booming crash of break-up thunders from the river. Smiling, an elder oils the handle of a hoe and listens for that great, warm wind. Creation is a song, a tickling become a gurgling, chuckling water voice. Winds which bend the snows to melting carry clouds of rain storms on shoulder. Green islands appear on turtle ‘ s back grasses long sleep beneath the snow. Dawn of a glorious season, flowers In merging, undulating waves of color The taste of strawberries, anticipate in their blossoms, the rich and fertile smells of soil we bend to, breaking the ground for summer ’ s corn -Peter Blue Cloud

A summer Morning :

A summer Morning Summer Morning is written by Rachel Field. Rachel Field is an  extraordinary poet and her rhyming words tell how a summer morning is different from any other morning. She has her imagination take her through every moment and for me it ’ s amazing. She describes in the poem how in a summer a rising sun has affect on everything like the sea looks more beautiful, the birds are filled with joy, how the tree colors shine, and the wind blows freely. An example of what was what said is, “ I saw dawn creep across the sky. ”

A summer Morning :

A summer Morning I saw dawn creep across the sky, And all the gulls go flying by. I saw the sea put on its dress Of blue midsummer loveliness, And heard the trees begin to stir Green arms of pine and juniper. I heard the wind call out and say, “ Get up, my dear, it is today! ” -Rachel Field

Spring in new Hampshire :

Spring in new Hampshire Spring in New Hampshire is written by Claude McKay. His poems are a little different because he sees a picture of spring in a different way such as “ Too Blue the silver-speckled sky ” OR “ While happy winds go laughing by. ” When you read “ Spring in New Hampshire, ” you can imagine a strong picture in your head of the wind that is alive or the flowers blooming in the spring time. I like this poem because Claude McKay makes the nature into real life such as the wind talking or the streams of water talking.

Spring in new Hampshire :

Spring in new Hampshire Too green the springing April grass, Too blue the silver-speckled sky, For me to linger here, alas, While happy winds go laughing by, Wasting the golden hours indoors, Washing windows and scrubbing floors. Too wonderful the April night, Too faintly sweet the first May flowers, The stars too gloriously bright, For me to spend the evening hours, When fields are fresh and streams are leaping, Wearied, exhausted, dully sleeping. -Claude McKay

Snow is Falling :

Snow is Falling This poem is written by Boris Pasternak. Boris Pasternak wrote  about how he thinks about snow. He thinks of it as, “ In a coat with many patches. ” He also thinks of it as when snow is falling, festivals keep going on it never stops. “ Because life does not wait. ” There are similes in this poem. He describes something like it. Snow for him was a chaos for what it says in the poem. I like the similes that Boris Pasternak puts in. They are the base to the poem.

Snow is Falling :

Snow is Falling Snow is falling, snow is falling. Reaching for the storm ’ s white stars, Petals of geraniums stretch Beyond the window bars. Snow is falling all is chaos, Everything is in the air, The angle of the crossroads, The steps of the back stair. Snow is falling, not like flakes But as if the firmament In the coat with many patches Were making its descent. As if, from the upper landing, Looking like a lunatic, Creeping, playing hide-and-seek, The sky stole from the attic. Because life dose not wait, Turn, and you find the Christmas here. It ’ s suddenly New Year.

Snow is Falling (continued) :

Snow is Falling (continued) Snow is falling, thickly, thickly. Keeping step, stride for stride, No less quickly, nonchalantly, Is that time, perhaps, Passing in the street outside? And perhaps year follows year Like the snowflakes falling Or the words that follow here? Snow is falling, snow is falling, Snow is falling, all is chaos: The whitened ones who pass, The angle of the crossroads, The dazed plants by the glass.

Spring and All :

Spring and All William Carlos Williams wrote Spring and All. She puts a different kind of quality in her words. Such as putting, “ Brown and dried weeds, standing and fallen. ” I ’ m guessing you never thought about that. Well he did. There are some things that you would never think about but when he puts his thinking to work, his poem becomes epic! Wouldn ’ t everyone want what William Carlos Williams has?

Spring and All:

Spring and All By the road to the contagious hospital under the surge of the blue mottled clouds driven from the northeast-a cold wind. Beyond, the waste of broad, muddy fields brown with dried weeds, standing and fallen patches of standing water the scattering of tall trees All along the road the reddish purplish, forked, upstanding, twiggy stuff of bushes and small trees with dead, brown leaves under them leafless vines-

Spring and All (Continued) :

Spring and All (Continued) Lifeless in appearance, sluggish dazed spring approaches- They enter the new world naked, cold, uncertain of all save that they enter. All about them the cold, familiar wind- Now the grass, tomorrow the stiff curl of wildcarrot leaf One by one objects are defined- It quickens: clarity, outline of leaf But now the stark dignity of entrance-Still, the profound change has come upon them: rooted, they grip down and begin to awake

Explanation on Genre :

Explanation on Genre I know that this is poetry because poetry has stanzas. I also know because some of these poems rhyme. When I see a poem I should know that it is a poem because a poem has similes and metaphors. Poetry is a feeling that is put in the shortest amount of words.
