T he animals are Koala, Kangaroo, Opossum, Raccoon, Polar Bear, Emperor Penguin, Giraffe, Elephant, Baboon, Dolphin, Frog, Alligator, and last but not least, the Lynx. The book gives interesting information that people might not know. Book SummarySlide 3: Nonfiction books give real facts about the subject. They usually include a table of contents, pictures or photographs with captions, an index and a glossary. Explanation of GenreSlide 4: Is a marsupial Lives in Australia Baby stays in pouch for 6 months then climbs on to mother’s back Mother will carry baby until as big as her Father doesn’t help with baby’s development KoalaSlide 5: Lives in Australia Travel in large groups Baby is called joey Mother carries joey in pouch for 6 months After 6 months baby will hop next to it’s mother when he or she is 1 year old they will stay with mother but get their own food KangarooSlide 6: Only marsupial to live in the United States Carries young in pouch Can give birth to fifty babies at one time not all of them live W hen babies are first born they are as small as a thumb When all the babies are too big to fit in the pouch they go up and hold onto the mothers fur OpossumSlide 7: Are found in S outh Canada, the U.S.A., and parts of M exico Eat almost anything In April or May mother gives birth to 4-6 babies Mother very protective of babies Stay together as family for 1 year RaccoonSlide 8: Lives in Arctic Very good swimmers and hunters In the middle of hibernation mother gives birth to 1-3 cubs they weigh 2 pounds each Grow very fast for the rest of winter I n the spring they go out a nd play and learn from mother Polar BearSlide 9: Live in Antarctica Mothers lay 1 egg at a time Father watches egg for 2 months while mother fills up with food Baby will stay with their parents by holding/standing on to their feet, this way will also keep them warm When father leaves to fill up with food mother arrange a group of babies to play while mothers take shifts watching and protecting them, this goes on for 7 months Emperor PenguinSlide 10: When baby g iraffe is first born mother cleans and smells to know baby’s exact odor When first born, baby weighs about 150 pounds When 2 weeks old baby goes into larger baby group that 3 mothers watch Mothers must eat leaves to produce milk for their young When full grown he or she is about as tall as 2 basket-ball hoops GiraffeSlide 11: When first born weighs about 200 pounds For first 6 months mother follows calf every where Baby stays/learns with mother for 3-8 years Travel in very large groups When attacked by predators adults will stomp/run to confuse predators ElephantSlide 12: Travel in groups of around 100 Baby must hang on tight to mother or else will be left behind to die Cared for by mother and 2 friends Father must raise good baby or he and baby will get kicked out of troop If attacked by predator fathers will jump on back and pull off hair/skin BaboonSlide 13: Even though they live in sea, a dolphin is a mammal Born under water then mother pushes baby up to get it’s first breath They will whistle to know each others call They travel in pods while babies play in pens 3 teen dolphin watch them Mother still cares/teaches baby for 1 ½ years DolphinSlide 14: Come out of hibernation March through May Adult frogs lay hundreds of thousands of eggs in a pond Eggs are formed in a jelly like form After eggs are laid, neither parent raises baby During next 2-3 months grow very fast into little frog FrogSlide 15: Lives in rivers and swamps Lays 20-40 eggs and then puts mud and plants on top to keep warm so she can guard When babies are ready to hatch make squeaking sounds so mother can get them out Newborns are 8-10 inches long For first 3-4 y ears baby grows a foot a year AlligatorSlide 16: Lives in forests Has around 4 babies in early spring Opens eyes after 10 days from their birth Learns/stays with mother for 3-4 months Gets as big as a medium sized dog LynxSlide 18: All pictures from google.com images.
