Fourth Grade Rats By Jerry Spinelli :

Fourth Grade Rats By Jerry Spinelli Presented by Areeb

Slide 2:

This book is about a fourth grader named Suds whose friend Joey Peterson thinks that he is still a third grade angel who needs to man up. Joey tells Suds that “fourth grade rats don’t act like third grade angels” on page 2.

Slide 3:

Joey wants Suds to be a bad kid but Suds says “I wish I was still in third grade so I could be an angel”. Many times in the book, Joey pressures him about being a bad rat. He says “Rats should say no to their mommies and eat meat” on page 11. Joey also tells Suds that he should be bad so he can impress Judy Billings (the girl that he likes a lot).

Slide 4:

Even though Joey pressures Suds by saying that he needs to be a rat and do bad things, Suds says that he “doesn’t feel right” about doing bad things like “kicking those little kids out of the swings” on page 14. Suds also can’t stop saying no to his mommy because he likes being nice.

Slide 5:

In the end, Suds learns that you should always be nice to people and don’t change who you are when other people tell you to. When he is talking to his mom about how Joey pressured him to be mean he realizes that even though he “thought he was having a great time, really he was having a rotten time being a rat.” page 81

My opinion :

My opinion of the book was that it is a good book because it had a good meaning to it and was funny too. What I learned the book is that you should be nicer to people because it is not good to be a rat. I liked the book because I liked Joey’s character even though he was mean. I also liked reading about Joey because he is cool. I liked the pictures in the book because they gave me a better idea about what was going on. My opinion
