Introduction : 

Introduction Everyone should have a purpose for starting a particular career or career trek. You can trust that my reason is to create more positive experiences for those I aim to teach. I want learn from experts so that I have more to offer them. Primarily, I seek to teach through my writings, but I am developing my speaking skills as well. Think of this portfolio as me extending my hand to you in greeting.

Purpose of Portfolio This portfolio provides examples of my knowledge and experience as measured by the 15 competencies of the MA TESOL Program at APU. Intended Audience It was created for APU faculty, peers, and future employers.

Transcript - eTandem Meeting Description This is a conversation over Skype with a language exchange partner. Reflection I know that I need additional practice and a more structured plan in order to learn conversational Chinese. Application This is an ongoing exchange to help me develop as a language learner and sympathize with my students. Competency 2 Experience of learning another language

Learner Profile - TESL 505 Description This paper demonstrates my thoughts on why a learner achieved their level of competency in the English language based on SLA research. Reflection I would have liked to have continued our meetings. I believe we would have continued our meetings if we had formed more rapport in the beginning. Application I have begun a language exchange, and have made an effort to connect on a personal level instead of just a professional level. I will focus on creating good rapport with my students when I begin teaching. Competency 2 Experience of learning another language

Position Paper - TESL 505 Description Paper covers history of SLA research, major theories, and my the theory I adhere to in SLA. Reflection I would have liked to have consulted more resources. I would have liked to have conducted live interviews with current SLA researchers to get a clearer understanding of the field today. Many resources were dated. Application Will use this knowledge to direct new teachers in T.I.P. Language Program. Competency 5 Knowledge of the process of language acquisition and the effect on language acquisition of both individual and contextual variables.

Link to TESL 557 video (future link) Description This will be a series of shots of the application of my knowledge from TESL 557 in a volunteer setting. I explain the difficulties I faced with teaching students with a poor foundation in grammar. Reflection (To come) Application Many of the adults I will be teaching will be immigrants and infrequent visitors to the center. I will give them tools to learn while away from the center. Competency 6 Demonstrated ability, through actual teaching experience, to apply the principles of language pedagogy in various classroom situations and with various instructional materials.

Reflection I know this will continue to evolve more than other sections of this portfolio. TESL 505 - Position Paper Description Paper covers part of the classes discussion on language as a gift from God and concluding beliefs on the subject. Reflection I do not feel like I have really researched this topic enough I would like to use add to this paper to include additional research on this topic. Application Will submit to Journal of the American Scientific Affiliation and others during next break. Competency 13 Demonstrated ability to articulate a holistic view of students as spiritual and linguistic beings created by God, and languages as a gift of God in all their complexity and variety

TESL 501 - Lesson Plan Description The design of the lesson plan demonstrates my knowledge of Google Video Search, a Vocabulary Profiler tool, and how to teach students to use them. Reflection I have liked more feedback from my peers. Application It’s published online. I have added it to a lesson plan exchange website where it can be reviewed by other educators.
