Just in Mexico, a population as big as Canada’s (about 30 million) cannot afford food, education and health services; even though they spend all their income on it. Today, October 15th, 2008, in Mexico, 8 million children won’t be able to eat a piece of bread.

To give children and teenagers, the opportunity to get formal education would be a way to break the circle of poverty. Otherwise, they will probably have to quit school and start working in order to support their families. :

Otherwise, they will probably have to quit school and start working in order to support their families. Fortunately, a compassionate person gave her some economic support for her to be able to finish the semester. However, her problems still remain as her family struggles each day to make enough money to cover their most basic needs.

We had the chance to visit her and understand her problem to see what could be done in order to help her. She lives with her mother as her parents separated years ago. They make their livelihood by selling cakes and pies. :

We had the chance to visit her and understand her problem to see what could be done in order to help her. She lives with her mother as her parents separated years ago. They make their livelihood by selling cakes and pies.

Her mother (who didn’t want to appear on pictures) said most of their income goes to paying their monthly rent , groceries and her medicines (due to her chronic diseases). :

These are the first cases we received and wanted others like you to know about them. Helping them is helping whole families. It is about making them all happy and giving them hope for the upcoming years.

Slide 31:

Any economic help would be greatly appreciated. Our proposal is to make yearly commitments to these families. A small donation (e.g. $10 CAD/month for a whole year) would be incredibly helpful in solving many of these issues.

As a part of the program, we will be giving counselling to these kids on a weekly basis (1 hour per person) in order to ensure their well being.

In the future, we will be looking forward to give these children more support, sports gear, books, multimedia…so they can have a better integral development and would be less likely to fall into social problems….but that would be an another story… Thank you for your time and consideration!!! :
