Never Enough:

Never Enough Rex Orange County – Alex O’Connor (Caleb Harris)

Rex Orange County – Alex O’Connor:

Rex Orange County – Alex O’Connor Alex O’Connor, better known by his stage name Rex Orange County. He is an English song writer, recording artist and a song writer, He has only published two independent albums throughout his career, ‘Bcos U will never B Free’ and ‘Apricot Princess’, which includes the track I've chosen to make the music video on from that album. The name ‘Rex Orange County’ came from his teacher, she nicknamed him, The OC.

Alternative Rock:

Alternative Rock Alternative rock is referred as the type of rock music that is unconventional or outside the mainstream. Alternative rock is also the type of rock that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1980s and became widely popular in the 1990s. At times, “alternative” has been used as a catch-all description for music from underground rock artists that receive mainstream recognition, bands such as Nirvana, Coldplay, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Pepper, U2 and even Linkin Park.

Alternative Rock: Conventions:

Alternative Rock: Conventions Dark Colour Scheme: This reflects the attitudes of the performers and if there is any use of bright colours it is used for psychedelic effect. Hybrid of performance and narrative: Filming performance video is cheap and they also like to show that they create their own music. Placement of objects (alcohol or cigarettes): This shows their links with the rock it also shows that they have bad habits but don’t care to show it in the music videos. Fast Paced Editing: This is used because it matches the beat of the music and it also makes the video appear more intense and it keeps the viewers attention. The camera is also hand held which makes us, as an audience, feel as if we are physically there. This also reflects the unpolished attitude of alternative rock. Close Ups of the artist/band: This shows the audience that the artist is really singing and it also emphasises their talent. There also close up shots of other band members to show the same idea. They can be also used for the audience to admire the band or the artist.

Slide5:

Representation: As a male dominant genre, women also appear in rock music videos and many of which are objectified for the male audience and the male gaze. Some of the female artist choose to carry themselves in an objectifying way. This shows that they do not care about how society will label them as a modest, they will act rebellious and do what they want because they like it. Rebellious Attitude: Typical alternate rock is about being different and not caring and this is emphasised by the use of heavy drums and electric guitars, it is louder than pop music therefore it is not something everyone listens to.

Lyrics:

Lyrics Now there's no one left to blame And your face stays the same You're ashamed to say you feel relieved Stay away from your own family But years from now If you could make them proud You could leave the world and feel like you've achieved the things you hoped to do but Honestly I don't feel ordinary cause I haven't been at home in a while Tell them that it's only temporary I'm trying my best to smile

Slide18:

But that's never enough Cause when you lose the ones you love You might find it hard to cry Until it's only you and everybody else has left the room You might feel what it's like to not know how to feel You see, my old lady's old man just now left And there's nothing I can say except this long awaited rest Is a good thing and all good things must come to an end It's right in front of me so there's no reason to pretend Except I'm afraid to die If this were a movie, you'd be taking our kids to school And I'd be Channing Tatum or somebody sexy Somebody cool

Slide19:

Years from now If you could make them proud You could leave the world and feel like you've achieved the things you hoped to do but Honestly I don't feel ordinary cause I haven't left my house in a while Tell them that it's only temporary I'm trying my best to smile But that's never enough Cause when you lose the ones you love You might find it hard to cry Until it's only you and everybody else has left the room You might feel what it's like to not know how to feel Don't tell me you're sorry You're just sorry for yourself And though you might seem fine alone Well I could be the one to help (x3)

The Idea:

The Idea I have decided to create a music video which consists of a narrative about a conflicted teenager who feels neglected by his family members which makes him dislike them however he still cares for them and has thoughts about going back to his house and while he is living his life in the outside world , he emotionally depends on his best friends and the narrative progresses by them going on their separate ways in the end and he is left with the option of either going back to live by his own.

Shot List:

Shot List All of these scenes except a few exceptions such as Scene 5 and 4 will be executed using hand held camera movement in order to show a typical alternative rock music video. Scene 1 - This scene starts with an over-the-shoulder shot of Harry looking at his house from the opposite of the road and it is focused on the house as he is looking to the house, he then turns facing right in the fram e and then focus pulls from the house to his Profile Shot. Harry then puts headphones on and starting exiting the frame. Cut To: Scene 2: A close up of Harry and Jasmine's tapping feet synced to the instrumentals of th e music. Cut back to: Scene 3: A tracking mid shot of Harry walking towards the camera while lip singing the song. Cut to: Scene 4: A mid shot of a bench and show them interacting while Harry sings out the rest of the lyrics. Cut to: Scene 5: A focused Close Up of the grass while I stand in the distance of the grass. Cut to: Scene 6: A Mid shot of me lip singing the song while standing in the field.
