Edit Comment Close Premium member Presentation Transcript Slide1: challenging stigma & ensuring equalitySlide2: challenging stigma & ensuring equality On average one in four of us will experience a mental health problem in the course of a year.Slide3: challenging stigma & ensuring equality People with mental health issues are people whose differences should be celebrated, whose contribution to society as people of integrity and perseverance should be appreciated, and whose right to determine the key decisions that shape their own lives should always be enabled and paramount.Slide4: challenging stigma & ensuring equality Only 18% of people with mental illness are employed.Slide5: challenging stigma & ensuring equality The government has published a new draft mental health bill, but the draft bill as its stands it threatens the rights of people with mental health problems, and could massively overstretch mental health services. Slide6: challenging stigma & ensuring equality How you can help: - Write to your MP Write a letter for publication in your local newspaper. Publish an article in your student newspaper. Propose a motion in your Students’ Union, student council or JCR to raise awareness of the issue and to express students’ concerns over the government’s plans. Use the motion to mandate your Union to lobby your University, MP and local/national media. Come to the mass rally in January.
