MARRIAGE -:

Foundation of the Family of God MARRIAGE -

The Broken Circle :

The Broken Circle God’s design was for the marriage relationship to be unbroken for the life of the couple. Jesus said in Matthews 19:6, “So they are no longer two, but one.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate." In today’s society worldwide we are seeing an increase in the number of divorces even in the Church .

PowerPoint Presentation:

The “besetting sins” of Hebrews 12:1 are creeping into the Church.

DEFINITION OF MARRIAGE:

DEFINITION OF MARRIAGE The Christian understands marriage as a covenant: Made before God In the presence of fellow believers To one another for life More solemn, more binding, more permanent than a legal contract

Marriage is a relationship between a man and a woman::

Marriage is a relationship between a man and a woman: Intended by God To be a monogamous joining To be a permanent bond

PowerPoint Presentation:

To be a bond of love To be an example of the bond between Christ and the Church

PowerPoint Presentation:

Marriage must be built upon the foundation of the biblical philosophy of marriage and goals for marriage.

BIBLICAL GOALS FOR MARRIAGE :

BIBLICAL GOALS FOR MARRIAGE . We need to understand and teach the biblical pattern for marriage. The Biblical understanding of marriage is related to the nature and purpose of God.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Within the Word of God we find three primary goals for marriage and family life.

Marriage Is For Fellowship - :

Marriage Is For Fellowship - There is no closer form of fellowship than in the marriage relationship. We were also designed to fellowship with one another.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Marriage acknowledges responsibility for the continued well-being of another person

Marriage Is For Human Fulfillment :

Marriage Is For Human Fulfillment Marriage was intended to bring people into their God intended human fullness. In marriage husband and wife become one flesh joining their lives on every level of human experience (Ge 2:24).

Marriage Is For Family :

Marriage Is For Family - There is no better way to raise the next generation than in the Christian family.

PowerPoint Presentation:

A family that is based upon biblical principles will raise a generation of believers with a strong moral and ethical base. In Genesis 2:18-25 we see that God’s plan for man not to be alone.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Man in himself is incomplete and needs a life partner for wholeness. Man is to leave his family and cleave to his wife and become one flesh.

PowerPoint Presentation:

leave - separate himself from his family so that he can start his own family together with his wife. His relationship with his father and mother changes

PowerPoint Presentation:

cleave - be joined to his wife in an inseparable bond

PowerPoint Presentation:

one flesh - he and his wife now are one and have started a new family.

PowerPoint Presentation:

As a man leaves, cleaves and becomes one flesh with his wife he is now in a position to fulfill God’s command to multiply.

PowerPoint Presentation:

A woman’s position in the marriage relationship is unique and wonderful.

PowerPoint Presentation:

She completes the man therefore becoming complete herself. She is a co-worker with the man.

PowerPoint Presentation:

She provides a relationship that is deeper and closer than that of parents. She helps in bringing into the world the next generation.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Marriage included sexuality as a normal, natural part of the relationship (Ge 1:28; 2:25).

PowerPoint Presentation:

The book of Genesis establishes the positions of each partner in the marriage relationship.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Man is to have headship over the woman. This means that he was to be the primary provider and protector of the family.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Woman is to be the help meet to the man. This means that she is to help her husband in taking care of the family.

PowerPoint Presentation:

Physical life is to be passed on through individual families and the marital relationship.

PowerPoint Presentation:

God initiated sexual relations between man and woman (Ge 1:27,28). Sexual relations was part of God’s original plan (Ge 1:27,28).

PowerPoint Presentation:

Sexual relations was good in the sight of God (Ge 1:31). The sexual instinct is a primary drive created by God but is to be fulfilled solely in the bonds of marriage (Ge 3:16).

FULFILLING NEEDS IN MARRIAGE:

FULFILLING NEEDS IN MARRIAGE There are five basic needs in every person’s life. They are: Physiological - what is needed to sustain life (food, water, shelter, etc)

PowerPoint Presentation:

Safety - a safe environment, protection from harm, etc. Love and Belonging - affectionate relationships with others

PowerPoint Presentation:

Esteem - who they are in the eyes of themselves and others (recognition) Actualization - being all that we can be

PowerPoint Presentation:

There are four primary ways that we attempt to fulfill our needs in marriage. STATUS - “how important am I” Our self-image or self-concept is often built upon our appearance.

PowerPoint Presentation:

BELONGING - “do others accept me” When we feel that others accept us we feel a sense of security because we are not alone.

PowerPoint Presentation:

WORTHINESS - “I am good, I count” This rests on the introspective attitude of self-approval and being affirmed as a person of value.

PowerPoint Presentation:

ADEQUACY - “I am a success” Competence rests on the evaluations received, in part, through relationships and on one’s present sense of success.

PowerPoint Presentation:

The five basic needs of man are all meet in Jesus. Status, belonging, worthiness and adequacy are fulfilled in a relationship with Jesus.

PowerPoint Presentation:

We must get our eyes off of people fulfilling our needs. Only Jesus can fulfill our every need. All we need is Jesus.
