Alcohol Prevention within a Coordinated School Health Model San Francisco Unified School District Highlights: Youth Outreach Program Brief Intervention Sessions Meyla Ruwin and Ira Sachnoff School Health Programs Department at 415-242-2615 healthiersf.org

Health Services 11 High Schools with Wellness Program - School Nurses 2-3 days a week, designated Alcohol Youth Outreach Coordinator Nurse also at Hilltop site for Pregnant Minors. Psychological and Counseling Services Wellness Sites - All have Behavioral Health Counselors thru DPH partnership. Brief Intervention Sessions (BIS) - Student support staff at all sites trained including Wellness site staff, AYOCs, etc. Health Promotion for Staff SFUSD Wellness Policy - mini grant for 06-07 to identify 5 sites at each level to model policy implementation and provide Staff Wellness opportunities such as the Free ACS program - Active for Life. Nutrition Services Workshops provided on the SFUSD Wellness Policy for staff. Physical Education Promote physical education and activities such as Positive Alternatives to substance use (e.g., Ropes Course, Sailing trips). Healthy School Environment Working to enhance the Protocol for students if they have been caught using alcohol. Youth Outreach Program - Students are provided a stipend to share Alcohol Prevention information and resources through Peer Education and School-wide Awareness campaigns. Family and Community Involvement Partner with Ohloff House to provide Alcohol Prevention expert to assist sites without Wellness Programs to implement BIS and Insight Groups. Provide all Families with SF Action Guide with Health Resources and Information on a biennial basis. Health Education Project Towards No Drug Abuse - research based program, provide workshops for teachers and assess implementation and impact.
