Welcome to ENGL 1010: 

Welcome to ENGL 1010 In this class, we are going to write more than you probably ever thought was possible in a fifteen week class. But, this is one of the most important classes you will take at PSTCC, as it prepares you to survive the writing in all the other classes you have to take – and there is tons of writing in your future as a scholar!

Materials You Need: 

Materials You Need Three books: One Piece of Software – MS Word, any version: No exceptions, I will not track down a bunch of different software to open your papers. And, you will need Word to read my comments about your papers.

Each week, you are required to enter into a discussion of some sort in which you are to make 3 replies – one initial reply of 200 words, and two replies to your peers of 100 words. Peer Reviews also take place on the discussion boards.

Formatting Your Essays: 

Formatting Your Essays Use MLA format (more on this in week 2) Times New Roman 12 pt Font 1' Margins .doc or .docx files ONLY Just name your files 'firstname Essay' (ex. Katie Response Essay) – I love creative expression, however, elearn (d2l) does not. 'Special' characters such as andamp; *^#$@! and even sometimes . can make elearn go crazy. Each paper must have a writer’s log in which you may tell me anything you like (hopefully about your writing process). Include this at the end of your essay, just after the Works Cited.

Course Ground Rules We will be discussing controversial topics - approach them with an open mind. Closed mindedness will not be tolerated. No flaming – play nice and do not be easily offended. Humor is always appreciated – PLEASE make us laugh. Turn your work in on time – late work is a major no-no NO EXCUSES – Please do not email me any excuses. I have heard them all. Take responsibility for your work and get it done when it is due. Have fun with this class! It does not have to be dull. Write about topics that inspire, infuriate or thrill you. It’s all what you make it.
