Stratford High Street as it is seen today. The changes are slight but have been necessary to enable the town to fit with today’s different lifestyles and the town’s different functions. The transformation of the function of this building is a prime example of a change to fit with the expensive, electronic financial aspects of people’s lives in today’s towns. The changing function of Stratford from a market to a tourist town has meant building fronts such as these have been revealed to try to represent the town’s back-dating history. In a further attempt to show history in Stratford’s buildings, the original building in this case has been entirely rebuilt, with a traditionally older-looking building built in its place. The pillars on this building have been changed at a later date to show elegance and make the building more architecturally exciting, and windows have been boarded up in the upper levels. The building stands now as a designer clothing store. Transport issues have had to be met to promote a flow of traffic, and roundabouts and street signs can be seen all over the town to attend to this. The introduction of cars has meant surfaced roads have been laid, pavements slimmed and roads widened.

Towns nationwide are constantly changing to fit with ever changing lifestyles. Old buildings often have to be adapted for a different function, and streets, although possibly standing architecturally in the same way that they always have, become very different places as time passes.
