An evil is usually referred to something troublesome and harmful. Social evils are issues or matters that directly or indirectly affect one or more members of society thus harming the welfare of that society. A society is a building block of a country. So, it can be said that social evils are destructive to the peace and harmony of a country as a whole. They breakdown the moral values of a society and the ethnicity of a country through economic or social means. The most prevalent of the social evils in contemporary India are – dowry and dowry death, human trafficking, gender inequality and female foeticide , substance abuse, child labor, domestic violence and many more.PowerPoint Presentation: DOWRY Dowry is nothing but the money, goods or estate that a woman brings to a marriage. In India, dowry (known as Dahej in Hindi) is a payment of cash or gifts from the bride's family to the bridegroom's family upon marriage. It may include cash, jewellery, electrical appliances, furniture, bedding, crockery, utensils and other household items that help the newly-weds set up their home. Payment of dowry is now prohibited under The 1961 Dowry Prohibition Act in Indian Civil Law and subsequently by Sections 304B and 498a of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Despite anti-dowry laws in India, it is still a common illegal practice.PowerPoint Presentation: DOWRY DEATH In India dowry puts a great financial strain on the bride’s family. A number of times they are unable to pay the demanded dowry to the groom’s family. This often results into frequent physical harassment for the bride by her in-laws and subsequently leads to something unexpected and that is.PowerPoint Presentation: This is the most prevalent social evil existing in our society. The helpless wife in this case becomes the victim if she is unable to meet the unreasonable demands of dowry by the husband and in-laws. The gravity of this offence can be gauged from the increasing number of dowry death cases in the country . DOWRY DEATH 8,391 dowry death cases were reported in 2010 with more than hundreds of such cases alone in Delhi.PowerPoint Presentation: For all watching this, raise your voice against dowry. Resist to take and give dowry.PowerPoint Presentation: HUMAN TRAFFICKING Human Trafficking is a crime against humanity. It involves an act of recruiting, transporting, transferring, harbouring or receiving a person through a use of force, coercion or other means, for the purpose of exploiting them. Every year, thousands of men, women and children fall into the hands of traffickers, in their own countries and abroad. In simple it is the business in which human is a commodity. Human Trafficking is often said to be modern day or global slavery.PowerPoint Presentation: STOP HUMAN TRAFFICKINGPowerPoint Presentation: GENDER INEQUALITY Gender inequality refers to disparity between individuals due to gender. Gender is constructed both socially through social interactions as well as biologically through chromosomes, brain structure, and hormonal differences. Girls are often treated as inferior to boys at workplaces(through wage difference) and at home. At home a girl child is often considered a mark of bad luck. Boys are given priority as they will be heir in the future. Boys get all what they want but girls are often treated badly and sparred of a number of things like education.PowerPoint Presentation: REGARD BOYS AND GIRLS EQUAL, AVOID GENDER DISCRIMINATION.PowerPoint Presentation: Millennium Development Goal 3PowerPoint Presentation: FEMALE FOETICIDE Feticide (or foeticide ) is an act that causes the death of a foetus. Sometimes it is done intentionally to kill girl infants. That is why this has become a major social problem and termed as Female Feticide. Sex determination tests through ultrasound make it possible to determine the gender of the unborn baby. Some who believe that girl child is a curse to their home kill the foetus if its gender results show feminine. It is an ugly practice and a real sin to humanity.PowerPoint Presentation: A girl child may be a future Kalpana Chawla , Indira Gandhi or Bachendri Pal. So why kill girls. Help stop Female Foetecide .PowerPoint Presentation: CHILD LABOR Child labour refers to the employment of children at regular and sustained labour. This practice is considered exploitative by many international organizations and is illegal in many countries. Child labour is still common in some parts of the world, it can be factory work, mining, quarrying, etc. The problem of child labour exploitation is a major challenge to the progress of developing countries. Children work at the cost of their right to education which leaves them permanently trapped in the poverty cycle, sadly without the education and literacy required for better-paying jobs. This is particularly serious in India as it tops the list with the highest number of child labourers in the world. The 2001 national census of India estimated the total number of child labour, aged 5–14, to be at 12.6 million.PowerPoint Presentation: DO YOUR BIT TO STOP CHILD LABORPowerPoint Presentation: SUBSTANCE ABUSE Substance abuse , also known as drug abuse , refers to a maladaptive patterned use of a substance (drug) in which the user consumes the substance in amounts or with methods not condoned by medical professionals. Substance abuse/drug abuse is not limited to mood-altering or psycho-active drugs. Activity is also considered substance abuse when inappropriately used (as in steroids for performance enhancement in sports). Therefore, mood-altering and psychoactive substances are not the only drugs of abuse. Substance abuse often includes problems with impulse control and impulsivity. Drugs are especially harmful to adolescents a it is the age of rigorous growth that may be affected drastically.PowerPoint Presentation: THE ONLY WAY TO AVOID IT IS BY SELF AWARENES, SAY NO TO DRUGS .PowerPoint Presentation: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE Domestic violence , also known as domestic abuse , spousal abuse , battering , family violence , and intimate partner violence (IPV) , is defined as a pattern of abusive behaviours by a male member of the family to the female members especially wife. Domestic violence may include physical, sexual, emotional, verbal abuse. It is a demon that kills the bond and leaves a deep impact on the mind of children and youth.PowerPoint Presentation: “ BELL BAJAO”, Yes, RING THE BELL OF A HOUSE YOU THINK SUCH INCIDENCE IS GOING ON.PowerPoint Presentation: MITIGATION OF SOCIAL EVILS A number of steps have been taken by the government and many organizations to abolish the prevalent social evils. Many laws have been implemented for the prevention of these acts. But the common people have a role to play. The first step towards mitigation is PUBLIC AWARENESS. Each and every individual must take the oath to do his/her path in abolishing these evils. The public should be aware to report of any such incidence o the respective authority. The victim must raise the voice and resist such acts. Many other such simple steps by a society as a whole can mitigate the social evils and make social life happier.PowerPoint Presentation: THANKYOU You do not have the permission to view this presentation.
