Introduction to Onomatopoeia Enliven your writing by adding sound words! Use sound words instead of descriptions of sounds. Examples: The dog barked bowwow . The clock goes tick tack .

Demonstrating Onomatopoeia:

Demonstrating Onomatopoeia Let’s think about zoo. Based on your experience, think about animals you saw and how they cried. Let’s organize your thoughts. Animal cat meow pig oink oink Step I Step II

Demonstrating Onomatopoeia (Continued) Let’s write one or two sentences about animals using sound words that you organized! I visited my grandparent’s house with my parents. There are many kinds of animal. Cats cried meow meow , playing with each other. And pigs cried oink oink , running around. Step III

Guided practice:

Guided practice Look around the classroom or school. Make two or three sentences about what you see, using onomatopoeia. Make groups with three other classmates. Share what you wrote with group members. If there are some errors, correct it together. Share it with the class.
