Brown High School, resource officers, Safe Schools Plans, and we conduct regular drills & training. There have been no serious injuries in KCS in more than 10 years.Safety & Health: Safety & Health KCS has eliminated junk food from our cafeterias. ALL snacks meet Winner’s Circle standards for fat, calories, sodium, sugar, & carbohydrates Every school offers fresh fruits/ vegetables, salad bar, and low fat menu items We give every student a free, nutritious breakfast each morningTeacher Qualifications: Teacher Qualifications KCS has a higher percentage of teachers certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards than the state average KCS is above the state average in its percentage of fully licensed teachers Teacher Qualifications: Teacher Qualifications KCS is the only area system to have a National Educator of the Year KCS hires only the top 5% of more than 1,000 teacher applicants each year Teacher Qualifications: Teacher Qualifications Our 2004 Teacher of the Year mentors educators from all over the U.S. and is approved as a national presenter by the NBPTS KCS has a partnership with the prestigious NC School of Science & Mathematics Class Size: Class Size We have the smallest elementary class sizes of any school district in the area—18 per class. Middle school class sizes average 21 students High school class sizes are lowest in the area and below the state averageTest Scores: Test Scores KCS has made 96% of our Adequate Yearly Progress goals for two years in a row—far better than the state average of 75% and better than any surrounding school district.Test Scores: Test Scores KCS has the highest Physical Science scores in North Carolina! It’s the third straight year we have been #1 or #2 in the state!Test Scores: Test Scores KCS is also above the state average in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Algebra II, and Geometry, and overall high school student achievement. Slide14: Curriculum The Kannapolis City School District offers some of the best and most rigorous courses anywhere. KCS pioneered specialized elementary reading programs that have become models for the rest of the state. Curriculum: Curriculum A.L. Brown is the only high school in the region with a Cyber Campus. We serve the academic, social, & discipline needs of children in a smaller age range. Facilities & CurriculumOther KCS Advantages: Schools of Choice: We allow parents to choose their child’s elementary school if they provide transportation and if there is room at their desired school. Neighborhood Schools: All our schools are located in a small area, so children attend school near where they live. Other KCS AdvantagesOther KCS Advantages: Short Bus Rides: All our bus rides are limited to about 20 minutes. Character Education: We were the first district in this area to develop a Character Education Program, which operates at all grade levels.
