Safety & Health: 

Safety & Health KCS has a systemwide K-8 student uniform policy, a modified uniform policy at A.L. Brown High School, resource officers, Safe Schools Plans, and we conduct regular drills & training. There have been no serious injuries in KCS in more than 10 years.

ALL snacks meet Winner’s Circle standards for fat, calories, sodium, sugar, & carbohydrates Every school offers fresh fruits/ vegetables, salad bar, and low fat menu items We give every student a free, nutritious breakfast each morning

Teacher Qualifications KCS has a higher percentage of teachers certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards than the state average KCS is above the state average in its percentage of fully licensed teachers

Class Size We have the smallest elementary class sizes of any school district in the area—18 per class. Middle school class sizes average 21 students High school class sizes are lowest in the area and below the state average

Test Scores: 

Test Scores KCS has made 96% of our Adequate Yearly Progress goals for two years in a row—far better than the state average of 75% and better than any surrounding school district.

Test Scores KCS has the highest Physical Science scores in North Carolina! It’s the third straight year we have been #1 or #2 in the state!
