Part of xDSL family Technology uses higher frequencies over existing local loop i.e. copper wires (which carries voice data) It is a broadband technology that is trialled and tested, providing “an always on” high speed / cost effective connection to the Internet

JANET Network Access Satellite Trial JISC / UKERNA 12-month Satellite Trial initiated in 2001 Aim: To trial two way satellite connectivity to the Internet for remote and rural sites (where ADSL / Cable Modem is not available) Satellite WG established to steer the trial UKERNA is managing the installation of the technical infrastructure.

JANET Network Access Wireless Activities UKERNA will be establishing a JANET Wireless Advisory Group to investigate both fixed and mobile wireless technologies JANET Wireless Advisory Group will be chaired by Barry Forde (Lancaster University). UKERNA is an active member & Co-chair of the TERENA Mobility Group
