Asking Questions When you have a general question post it on the discussion board for the week – use the “Lesson Question” thread If you have a personal question or comment, especially about grades use the class mail link

The Syllabus:

The Syllabus No surprises Everything you need to do is in the syllabus Read the syllabus carefully and check things off as they are successfully turned in! All of the due dates are in the syllabus along with how to submit work You should keep a printed copy of the syllabus

Technical issues/Personal Problems:

Technical issues/Personal Problems When you encounter a technical issue don’t sit on it and let it fester, this creates BIG problems – CALL SOMEONE that can help you, either the school or the instructor! If you get sick or have an emergency, don’t wait around letting weeks go by, call or email me right away so that I can advise you. Most of all don’t procrastinate, you will get behind, you will be upset, and you will most likely not like what happens.

Calendar Options:

Calendar Options There are 3 options available to “pace” your way to completing our course: 16-week Default calendar All syllabus due dates and in-class calendar due dates are set to this “schedule” I will hold you to the due dates on this calendar, even if you opt to use the 12 or 8 week versions 12-week Slightly condensed schedule, allows you to complete classes in advance of other finals for 16-week classes 8-week No spring break All work is completed before spring break

Calendar Options:

Calendar Options Why Students in the past asked for this because they wanted to finish the class faster This class has been offered in the past in a 16, 12, and 8 week format so these options help you to pick what is best for you. Once you complete the final project, if you are on a 12-week or 8-week calendar, I will email you and let you know your final grade and I can report it earlier. If you complete the class faster you may decide to sign up for more credits during the later part of the term. Our class does not involve a great deal of work, so finishing it faster may help you stay on-track and not procrastinate.

Expectations for Assignments:

Expectations for Assignments Add detail – I am looking for you to convince me you know exactly what you are talking about and have mastered the concepts we covered; leave me no room for doubt. Check your work – I grade for content, accuracy, as well as spelling, grammar, and structure. Proofread – About 20% of each assignment’s grade is dedicated to spelling, grammar, and structure in terms of written responses. Effort – You need to put some effort into the assignments, if it looks like an assignment was completed in all of 5-minutes it will be pretty obvious and your grade will reflect this. Apply what we learn – Use the terminology from lectures, guest speakers, and readings. Come up with your own examples and ideas to apply what we are learning. Don’t just put forth work that is “from the box;” I want you to take the concepts we learn and run with them, usually outside the box (example, just because you plan a kid’s birthday party this doesn’t mean there needs to be balloons and a pony).
