What is the human person? : 

2 What is the human person? The scourge of abortion US Today twenty-two percent of all U.S. pregnancies end in abortion. 2005 approximately 1.21 million abortions CHINA: 13 million per year.

God and man : 

3 God and man Man is created to know and to love God. Happiness Freedom Inclination to evil (temptations to pride, laziness, lust, etc) Supernatural Grace (elevates and heals our human nature) Human person: the only creature on Earth that God has wanted for its own sake. Not something but someone (CCC 357)

MAN: the superior “animal” : 

4 MAN: the superior “animal” PERSON: juridical / ethical / onthological/ psychological / LIFE DIGNITY: dignified, excellent: the only creature on earth God has wanted for its own sake.

Man is obliged to follow the moral law, … : 

5 Man is obliged to follow the moral law, … which urges him "to do what is good and avoid what is evil" (cf.GS 16). This law makes itself heard in his conscience. Being in the image of God the human individual possesses the dignity of a person , who is not just something, but someone.

SOCIAL CHARACTER OF THE PERSON : 

6 SOCIAL CHARACTER OF THE PERSON Every person possesses the same nature, and the same origin. Everyone has been redeemed by Christ. All therefore enjoy an equal dignity Certain societies, such as the family and the state, correspond more directly to the nature of man; they are necessary to him “Socialization" : the natural tendency for human beings to associate with one another for the sake of attaining objectives that exceed individual capacities.

SOCIETY : 

7 SOCIETY Person Family Voluntary associations State (Nation) Every Society must be oriented to the good of the person, and the Common Good.

Principle of subsidiarity : 

8 Principle of subsidiarity “A community of a higher order should not interfere in the internal life of a community of a lower order, depriving the latter of its functions, but rather should support it in case of need and help to co- ordinate its activity with the activities of the rest of society, always with a view to the common good." Unjust structures have arisen in Society: corruption of public officials, unjust laws (abortion), etc. Need of just persons. Professional morality.

AUTHORITY : 

9 AUTHORITY To ensure the common good of the society: in civil law, in traffic, in education, etc. Authority must avoid favoritism, corruption; it must practice distributive justice. Human rights. Values. Unjust laws are not binding in conscience. The duty of obedience to the just authority. The election of political regime and the election of leaders corresponds to the free and responsible decision of the citizens.

COMMON GOOD : 

10 COMMON GOOD “The sum total of social conditions which allow people, either as groups or as individuals, to reach their fulfillment more fully and more easily." 1. Respect for the persons: for the exercise of the natural freedoms (privacy, religion, education) 2. The common good requires the social well-being and development of the group itself. 3. It requires peace, that is, the stability and security of a just order.

PARTICIPATION IN PUBLIC LIFE : 

11 PARTICIPATION IN PUBLIC LIFE As far as possible citizens should take an active part in public life. Respect for the human person entails respect for the rights that flow from his dignity as a creature. The principle of solidarity, also articulated in terms of "friendship" or "social charity." Justice & charity.
