1.1 Sanctifying Grace: Supernatural Gifts ·     Two kinds of grace: (a)         actual = God's help at the beginning of conversion or in the course of the work of sanctification (b)         habitual = permanent disposition to live and act in keeping with God's call. ·     What sanctifying grace is: (a)         habitual grace (b)         gift of God: sharing of his life (God in us) (c)         stable and supernatural disposition effects: makes us pleasing to God, friends/children of God (sharing his life) and guarantees the continuation of that life in heaven

(Rom 5:12) *         "Sin came into the world through one man and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all men sinned…" (Rom 5:19) *         hence, misery and inclination to evil in the human nature (CONCIPISCENCE) For all, it is a contracted sin, not committed. *         a sin that affected human nature that is transmitted in a fallen state, like a debt transmitted from father to son (CCC 404) *         hence, need for infant Baptism (CCC 403) man NOT corrupted, only wounded, and therefore can be cured, though weakness would remain (CCC 405) * The need for Personal Interior Struggle : man's whole life is a battle

Consequences of Original Sin Adam and Eve began to look at God with fear and distrust. They lost their supernatural and praeternatural gifts. Human nature was wounded. There is ignorance in the intellect and malice in the will. Death, suffering, tiredness, etc entered into human history
