How to Tell if You Have Macular Degeneration

Slide 2:

As persons enter their 60’s, new vision problems may develop, one of which is macular degeneration. The following symptoms are common in those who are experiencing this condition.   Changes in Central Vision   Persons developing macular degeneration often start to see a spot in the middle of their line of vision. It can begin as a small dark spot, then gradually grow in size. Peripheral sight generally stays intact.

Slide 3:

Geometric Deformation   Visual distortions are common in patients developing this condition. One common sign is apparent curves of a line that’s completely straight. Some have difficulty seeing details and may even experience hallucinations.   The Other Eye Follows Suit   Some people have one eye that is stronger than the other. But in those developing macular degeneration, both eyes are affected equally.

Slide 4:

No Pain Despite Degrading Eyesight   Unlike conditions that can occur in persons of any age, such as myopia and hyperopia, macular degeneration doesn’t cause a strain that leads to pain. This has caused some people to shake off the symptoms. Unfortunately, however, postponing the diagnosis can lead to a more severe and rapid form of vision loss.   Don’t allow a problem at early stage to get worse. Instead, find an eye doctor that you can trust to evaluate your vision and provide you with therapy recommendations.
