Guadalcanal Invasion:

Guadalcanal Invasion The Astoria and Chicago arrived at Guadalcanal with the invasion force on August 7, 1942. A six month struggle followed that was fought on land, at sea, in the air, under the sea and supply chain operations. Both ships played a critical role in the early fighting, but neither warship survived the campaign.
