Is It Sinful To Be Rich?:

No! It is not sinful to be rich, but it is sinful to love riches more than we love God or other people. Is It Sinful To Be Rich?

Parable of the Rich Young Man Jesus was walking along the road when a rich young man came running to Him. The rich young man said, “Good teacher, what should I do in order to inherit the kingdom of God?” Jesus answered, “Why did you say I am good. Only God is good. You know God’s commandments, ‘Be faithful to your wife’,’ Do not kill’, Do

money and give them all to the poor as charity. Then, take up your cross and come and follow Me.” Parable of the Rich Young Man When the rich young man heard Jesus said that he has to give away all his money to the poor to follow Jesus, his countenance immediately becomes sad and he went away.

Parable of the Rich Young Man Then Jesus spoke to His disciples, “How hard is it for the rich to get into heaven? Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through a needle than the people who put their trust in the riches of the world rather than God’s kingdom.” And the disciples said, “Who then is qualified to inherit eternal life?” Jesus answered, “With God, everything is possible.”

Then Peter said, “See, we have left everything to follow you.” Parable of the Rich Young Man Jesus said, “Anyone who had left his wife, brothers, or sisters, mother or father to follow Me and anyone who were persecuted and offended because of me will receive their reward in one hundred fold. Describe me!

PowerPoint Presentation:

1. PROUD He thought he could please God and gain entrance to God’s kingdom by his own goodness and obedience to God’s laws. REMEMBER: The rich young man said, “Teacher, I had obeyed these commandments since I was a small boy.” He thought that by doing good things, he would be good enough to deserve eternal life!

PowerPoint Presentation:

REMEMBER: The rich young man said, “Teacher, I had obeyed these commandments since I was a small boy.” 2. The Rich Man did not realize that ONLY GOD IS GOOD! He thought that he was good, and he thought that Jesus was just another good man like himself.

PowerPoint Presentation:

REMEMBER: The rich young man said, “Teacher, I had obeyed these commandments since I was a small boy.” 3. The Rich Young Man did not know the way of the Law. He did not know that he was born a sinner under S atan’s control. Why? We are born descendants of Adam and are separated from God. Therefore, he could not perfectly obey God’s laws and so please God.

PowerPoint Presentation:

REMEMBER: When the rich young man heard Jesus said that he has to give away all his money to the poor to follow Jesus, his countenance immediately becomes sad and he went away. 4 . GREEDY He loved his riches more than he loved God and the poor neighbors.

PowerPoint Presentation:

What do you think Jesus was trying to tell him? He could not be accepted by God because of the things he did. He had broken the 1 st commandment: We must love God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind (Matthew 22:37-39) He had broken God’s law to love your neighbor as you love yourself.

PowerPoint Presentation:

What do you think Jesus was trying to tell us? 1. If we put our spiritual lives first, he will bless us. We should surrender all our wealth to Jesus and put Jesus first instead of money. The Rich Young Man was sad because, although he wanted eternal life, he loved his money more than he loved God or people.

PowerPoint Presentation:

2. There is nothing wrong with being rich but money holds us back from giving ourselves more to Jesus. There are Godly men in the Bible like Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and David that are very wealthy. What do you think Jesus was trying to tell us? Jesus knew that this young man was greedy and loved his riches more than he loved God or his poor neighbors.
