Research: 

Research Research is in progress and results of recent research is helping guide treatment providers in all areas of service delivery by providing keys to evidence based treatment protocols and helping to reveal the various indicators for suicide. Example: Targeted form of CBT

Cognitive Behavior Therapy: 

Cognitive Behavior Therapy Recent suicide attempters treated with cognitive therapy were 50% less likely to try to kill themselves again within 18 months than those who did not receive the therapy, report researchers supported by the NIMH and the CDC. A targeted form of CBT designed to prevent suicide proved better at lifting depression and feelings of hopelessness than TAU.

College Campus Grants Provides funding to institutions of higher education to enhance services for students with mental and behavioral health problems, such as depression, substance abuse and suicide attempts.

Adolescents At Risk Grants: 

Adolescents At Risk Grants Support youth suicide prevention and early intervention programs $9.6 million over 3 years for 8 grants

Katrina-Related Suicide Prevention Grants: 

Katrina-Related Suicide Prevention Grants Hurricane Katrina related state sponsored suicide prevention Build on the foundation of prior suicide prevention efforts by states and tribes to develop and implement statewide or tribal youth suicide prevention and early intervention strategies

Gatekeeper Training: 

Gatekeeper Training Many GLSMA grant activities have included gatekeeper training Provides communities with mental health first aid skills for Recognizing those at risk for suicide Identifying the warning signs Assisting the at risk person in receiving appropriate services Increases community awareness

Training and Awareness for Providers: 

Training and Awareness for Providers Surveys show that clinicians were not receiving adequate training in suicide prevention and intervention American Association for Suicidology and Suicide Prevention Resource Center developed the “Assessing and Managing Suicide Risk: Core Competencies for Mental Health Professionals”

Anti-Stigma Campaigns:

What a Difference a Friend Makes Purpose is to encourage, educate and inspire people between the ages of 18-25 to support their friends who are experiencing mental health problems. Video clip and resources available for this education and anti-stigma campaign.

Anti-Stigma Campaign "Texans Working Together” DSHS and NAMI-Texas spotlight a number of business leaders in Texas who have struggled with mental illness and recovered.  The Web site features pictures of and stories about well-known Texans such as Philip Burguieres, vice chair of the Houston Texans football team, who has experienced major depression. Mental Health Transformation in Texas Also includes future plans addressing anti-stigma
