Instructions Read each proverb – do not use a dictionary at first. What is your first impression as to the literal meaning? Look up any vocabulary you need – can you work out the literal meaning now? Now look at the figurative meaning of the proverb. Some come from France, some from French-speaking Africa. Can you tell which? Are there any English proverbs which match? What are the proverbs trying to teach us?
