InSOPHE’s Mission:

InSOPHE’s Mission Indiana Society for Public Health Education’s mission is to promote, encourage, and contribute to the advancement of the health of all people and to advance the health education and promotion profession through research, service, leadership, education, and distribution of appropriate materials.

History of InSOPHE:

History of InSOPHE Originally the Indiana Association of Health Educators (IAHE) Established in 1963 Formed to advance Health Science and Health Education as a profession Began looking into affiliation with national organization Became an official SOPHE chapter on November 5, 1999

InSOPHE’s Objectives:

InSOPHE’s Objectives Strive to provide and create an environment in which Health Education and Health Promotion professionals can: Network and participate in professional development Advance health education theory and research Advocate for public health policies

InSOPHE Board Member Positions:

InSOPHE Board Member Positions President President-Elect (Continuing Education) Past President (Leadership and Bylaws) Communication Director Membership Director Advocacy Director Secretary Treasurer Chapter Delegate Student Representative

President:

President Liaison between InSOPHE and other professional organizations Building partnerships Board and business meetings Appointing, nominating, and awarding committees Annual Report and Re-Designation

President-Elect:

President-Elect Plan and implement continuing education workshops Indiana Public Health Week conference committee member SOPHE CE committee member

Past President:

Past President Review bylaws to insure they are up to date Draft proposed changes to the bylaws for review by the Board of Directors and the membership Create official InSOPHE Annual Report and provide to the membership

Communication Director:

Communication Director Manage the chapter website Develop all marketing material Provide ideas and suggestions to build the chapter

Membership Director:

Membership Director Retain current members and recruit new ones; track national SOPHE members from Indiana Maintain a member database that is accurate and current; remind members of renewals and expirations; document payments and submit to Treasurer Prepare and conduct an annual member survey; use feedback to help direct the organizations’ goals for maximum member benefit Produce an annual on-line membership directory Oversee the Membership Committee and its initiatives Ensure membership brochure is up to date

Advocacy Director:

Advocacy Director Liaison between InSOPHE and SOPHE’s Advocacy Committee Ensures advocacy priorities are communicated regularly to membership Ensures professional development of membership includes a focus on advocacy Plans and implements state and local health education public policy activities

Secretary:

Secretary Record Board of Director meeting minutes Record business meeting minutes Create and disseminate ListServ information

Treasurer:

Treasurer File yearly State & Federal tax documents Manage A/R & payable Report monthly financial transactions Submit annual budget data

Chapter Delegate:

Chapter Delegate Serves as a liaison at the national and state level of SOPHE to ensure: the Chapter is in compliance with National SOPHE bylaws the Chapter responds to periodic requests for information from the Executive Director the active chapter representation and input on the Advocacy, Continuing Education, and External Communications committees of SOPHE.
