The Artist: 

The Artist I feel compelled to cut up tiny pieces of paper and glue them back together again. Why? To tell stories through imagery …like dreaming in color

Inspiration: 

Inspiration To be an artist one must dress strangely, appear awkward and occasionally do something which is well beyond the norm.

Was that Johnny Depp?: 

Was that Johnny Depp? Yes it was. I listen to movies while I work. Pirates of the Caribbean!!! YAY! Each project takes from 7 to 12 movies to complete!

Details Schmetails Next I cut out every friggin tiiny detail …fingers, berries, petals, strands of hair, Blades of GRASS! Ya feel me?

You Guessed it!: 

You Guessed it! I am now listening to Hellboy while I work. I have an annoying habit of watching the same movie over and over and over and over. For the duration of this project, I watched Hellboy …6 TIMES

Puzzle Pieces: 

Puzzle Pieces Next step is putting the pieces together so that they are interacting. The story begins to unfold. Here we see a troll gazing lovingly at a cheerleader and a baby who is both a bird and a bunny.

Fill in the Gaps: 

Fill in the Gaps As a backdrop to the main images, I will snip out colors, textures and shapes which are carefully placed s o they blend, frame and compliment.

Back to the Drawing Board: 

Back to the Drawing Board Running out of images before the end seems to be the norm although at the start there always seems to be MORE than enough ! Return to Step 1 do not pass GO do not collect $200

Kitty Monsters: 

Kitty Monsters Before returning to the magazines, I cover my work. My cats have a need to sit on anything I’ve been doing... laundry, newspaper, artwork, doesn’t matter. What the heck is that!?!

Speaking of The Monsters: 

Speaking of The Monsters The sitting kitty was Jerry Garcia. Jerry, as it turns out, is female. Pictured here is Jerry’s brother, Bob Weir. A lso female. Yup, lots of gender issues in this house .

Attention Deficit: 

Attention Deficit Before getting back to the magazines, I am side-tracked. I am now searching through hundreds of photos taken last year to find one that completes the story.

Second Runner Up: 

Second Runner Up This looked better in my imagination. Much too busy-girly-froufrou. I am not aiming to have my art hung in the ladies room.

First Runner Up: 

First Runner Up This image swings too far in the other direction. It is one thing to contrast, it is another thing to threaten babies with sharp pointy menacing objects in the darkness.

The Winner: 

The Winner N ow the story begins to speak. It is a survivor’s tale. I see struggle, strength, memories, hope and victory.

Finishing Touches The printed photo is enhanced. The work is coated with layers of matte finish so the individual images will blend seamlessly.
