We all have fears : We all have fears That list is not a definitive list fears are as diverse as people We all have fears : We all have fears Are all fears bad? Do we always avoid fearful experiences? Why not? Good fear & bad fear? : Good fear & bad fear? Bible = 2 types of fear. Right fears; respect, honour, reverence, awe, = safe fears. Wrong fears; worry, anxiety, apprehension, perplexity and distrust = destructive fears . Good fear & bad fear? : Good fear & bad fear? Learning from fear Fear (respect) of fire (beware it burns!) is a good fear it keeps us safe. Irrational fear of fire - feeling anxiety over watching a video of a log fire, is unhelpful and damaging. Wisdom from the Bible : Wisdom from the Bible Proverbs 1:7The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline. Proverbs 10:27 The fear of the LORD prolongs days, But the years of the wicked will be shortened. Proverbs 19:23The fear of the LORD leads to life: Then one rests content, untouched by trouble. Fear of the Lord? : Fear of the Lord? Respect leading to: 1) Holiness 2 Cor 7:1 2) Working out our salvation Phil 2:12 3) Evangelism 2 Cor 5:11 Negative fears : Negative fears Fear of failure caused the one talent man to do nothing Matt 25:25 The Antidote Our Lord has promised us assured success in the things that are really important 1 Cor 15:58 God’s promises to us : God’s promises to us Is 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’ 2 Tim 1:7 For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. God’s promises to us : God’s promises to us 1 John 4:18 There is no (negative) fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because (negative) fear involves torment. But he who fears (negatively) has not been made perfect in love. God’s promises to us : God’s promises to us Be careful (anxious) for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
