WHAT IS STRESS ? Stress(stres), noun. 1. a specific response by the body to a stimulus , as fear or pain, that disturbs or interferes with the normal physiological equilibrium. 2. physical, mental, or emotional strain or tension.

Stress is not in our environment…: 

Stress is not in our environment… ...it is what we perceive in our mind and body…

perception: 

perception It is our perception of that stimulus which determines whether a situation is stressful. Some event that is exciting and pleasurable to one person maybe painfully stressful to another.

MIND MANAGEMENT: 

MIND MANAGEMENT Our GOAL is not to eliminate stress but how to manage it. Begin by educating ourselves REMEMBER: “Knowledge is power!” The ability to control a matter lies in understanding it.

SOURCES OF STRESS EXTERNAL Physical environment : noise , heat, dust, etc. Organizational: rules/regulations, red tape, deadlines, dysfunction Major life events: new environment , births, death, job loss, promotion Daily hassles: required exercises, commuting, studies (again!), routine inspection

SOURCES OF STRESS INTERNAL Lifestyle choices: lack of sleep, overload schedule Negative self talk: pessimistic thinking, self-criticism, over analyzing Mind traps: unrealistic expectations, black or white thinking, over-personalizing, rigid standards Personality traits: perfectionism, workaholism, people pleaser
