Symptoms of hot reactors can include: feeling anger easily often becoming anxious or depressed urinating frequently experiencing constipation or diarrhea more often than usual experiencing nausea or vomitingPsychosomatic Disease: Psychosomatic Disease Diseases for which the mind makes the body more susceptible. Also referred to as psychophysiological disease. Two types of psychosomatic disease are: psychogenic somatogenicPsychogenic Psychosomatic Disease: Psychogenic Psychosomatic Disease Physical disease caused by emotional stress. The mind changes the body’s physiology so that body parts break down. Examples of psychogenic disease include ulcers asthmaSomatogenic Psychosomatic Disease: Somatogenic Psychosomatic Disease Physical disease caused by the mind increase the body’s susceptibility to: disease-causing organisms (germs). natural degenerative processes. Poorly managed stress can negatively affect the effectiveness of the immune system.DEFENSE MECHANISMS: DEFENSE MECHANISMSDEFENSE MECHANISMS: DEFENSE MECHANISMS Protect us from being consciously aware of a thought or feeling which we cannot tolerate.DEFENSE MECHANISMS: DEFENSE MECHANISMS DENIAL-rejecting the thought or feelings SUPPRESION-you are vaguely aware of the though & feelings, but try to avoid itDEFENSE MECHANISMS: DEFENSE MECHANISMS RATIONALIZATION-you come up with various explanations to justify the situations( while denying your feelings) PROJECTION – you think someone else has your thoughts and feelings. e.g.“that instructor hates meDEFENSE MECHANISMS: DEFENSE MECHANISMS DISPLACEMENT – you redirect your feelings to another targetDEFENSE MECHANISMS: DEFENSE MECHANISMS ISOLATION OF EFFECT –you feel the feeling but don’t really feel it SUBLIMATION-you redirect the feeling into a socially productive activity.Slide 13: REGRESSION-you revert to an old, usually immature behavior to ventilate your feeling.Slide 14: REACTION FORMATION-you turn the feeling into its opposite UNDOING-you try to reverse or undo your feelings by DOING something that indicates the opposite feeling.COPING STRATEGIES: COPING STRATEGIESCOPING STRATEGIES: COPING STRATEGIES PROBLEM FOCUSED STRATEGIES EMOTION-FOCUSED STRATEGIESPROBLEM- FOCUSED STRATEGIES: PROBLEM- FOCUSED STRATEGIES 1. Seeking Social Support – talked to somebody to find out more about the situation, asked a friend for advice 4. Accepting responsibility – self-criticism, saying to oneself that things will be better next timeEMOTION-FOCUSED STRATEGIES: EMOTION-FOCUSED STRATEGIES 5. Escape – Avoidance – wishing the situation would go away, hoping for miracle, trying to make oneself better by eating and drinking a lot. 6.
