SITUATED 8 KILOMETERS FROM IPOH CITY . ~ FIRST OPENED IN 1984 WITH ONLY 23 TEACHERS AND 12 CLASSES. ~ 13 PRINCIPALS HAVE HELPED RUN SMK GUNUNG RAPAT. ~ AFTER 27 YEARS, IT HAS PROGRESSED WELL AND IS NOW AT PAR WITH OTHER PREMIER SCHOOLS IN THE STATE OF PERAK . ~ ~ SMKGR IS ALSO A DAY SCHOOL WITH BOARDING FACILITIES

School Information 72 Academic Staff ( the administrators, graduate and non-graduate teachers, teachers with coaching certificates) 19 Support Staff (administrative assistants, hostel supervisors, drivers and lab assistants) 931 students (co-ed, 85% are Malays, 13% Chinese and 2% Indians and others)

SMKGR UNIQUENESS: 

SMKGR UNIQUENESS Has performed well academically. Has deep sporting tradition - rugby, football, archery, equestrian and tenpin bowling. Was among the first 30 schools from all over M’sia selected as ‘Cluster Schools’ in March 2007. As a cluster school, our niche areas are English language and T enpin Bowling . In August 2008 SMK Gunung Rapat was officially selected as Perak State Sport School.

Cluster School Niche Area The English language was chosen as the academic niche area due to these considerations :- Good performance in PMR and SPM since 2004 . A high passing percentage of more than 95% for PMR . A high passing percentage of more than 95% for SPM . A high passing percentage of more than 95% for EST subject in SPM. Its high commercial value as an international language favoured by most countries in the world and it is the language of the Internet.
