Sarakasi: Yoga for Peace Friday 21 september 2007 UN International day of Peace 3.00 – 5.00 PM Location: UN recreation Centre Tickets are in the form of a donation of your choice and are available at the UNRC, from Rehana on 0721786616 On the UN International Day of Peace, Sarakasi is joining the Yoga Global Mala Project to raise money for the further development of artists in Kenya. Sarakasi Sarakasi Trust was established in December 2001 to respond to the need of the further development of culture. Sarakasi gives Kenyan acrobats, dancers and musicians the ultimate means of turning culture and the performing art into a livelihood. For the past six months the Sarakasi acrobats have incorporated yoga into their daily training program. These practices benefited the acrobats with their flexibility, breathing and over all well being. Day of Peace Since 1981 all United Nations member countries agreed to celebrate September 21st, as The International Day of Peace, a global ceasefire of nonviolence within our homes, our communities and between nations. The Peace Day has become a focal point for communities uniting and organizing peace inspiring events. Yoga Global Mala Project The word yoga means "union" in Sanskrit. Yoga is about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and Sarakasi is joining in the worldwide Global Mala Project. The purpose of the Global Mala Project is to unite the global yoga community from every continent in the world, forming a "mala around the earth" through collective practices based upon the sacred cycle of 108. Friday 21 September 2007 yoga studios, teachers and other yoga organizations across the globe will create fundraising celebrations, raising funds and awareness for some of the most essential issues of our times. Sarakasi: Yoga for Peace In this two hours during program we celebrate and recognize the UN International Day of Peace through yoga. Various yoga workshops are given by professional yoga teachers. We have a special beginners workshop to get acquainted with yoga. Different key speakers tell about the benefits of yoga in daily life, the importance of the International day of Peace and the work of Sarakasi. A spectacular performance is presented by Sarakasi acrobats. Tickets can be bought with a donation of your choice. Minimum donation is KSH 500. Donations of the event will benefit acrobats to become future yoga trainers, to realize a yoga room in the Sarakasi Dome and to clean up the surroundings. Community service The Sarakasi Dome will be the new home for the organization. It is a training, performance and office space on Ngara Road, where the skills of the artists can be further developed. It needs a major clean up. Saturday September 22nd Sarakasi will clean up the surroundings of the new Sarakasi Dome.
