Energy is recognised as a global issue as demonstrated by its importance in international trade. Industrialised countries still dominate world energy demand but their share is falling. Developing countries are the leading energy exporters but their role as consumers is also rapidly increasing. Interdependence in energy: Interdependence in energy Energy trade is one of the key growth factors in the global economy. Technological cooperation has added a new dimension to the energy interdependence. Climate Change has become an important issue in the policy debate. Interdependence holds the key to achieving access to commercial energy for the 1.6 billion people in the world who do not now have it today.
