The EC plays an “enzymatic” role: 

The EC plays an “enzymatic” role Ligase? catalyzes the reaction which joins two molecules. Examples include peptide synthetase, aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase, DNA ligase and RNA ligase. Transferase? catalyzes transfers of groups (acetyl, methyl, phosphate, etc.). Common names include acetyltransferase, methylase, protein kinase and polymerase. The first three subclasses play major roles in the regulation of cellular processes. The polymerase is essential for the synthesis of DNA and RNA. by joining groups in transnational efforts providing activation energy encouraging mobility promoting technology transfer & networking

Technology Platforms Central Concept : a framework to unite all interested parties in a particular sector or area of strategic importance or potential contribution to knowledge-based growth Main features: a common long-term “vision” for the technology concerned mobilisation of a critical mass of public and private research and innovation efforts definition of a Strategic Research Agenda and roadmap to realise the common vision A new instrument is proposed for FP7 to support ambitious, large-scale research projects through large public-private partnerships: “Joint European Technology Initiative”
