Session Goals HAITHAM HUNEAFAT - ACADEMICS VP 10/17/2011 2 why Is It Effective To Start Each Class With An Activity?: why Is It Effective To Start Each Class With An Activity? To keep discipline in the classroom. To draw students’ attention. To have time to write down your objectives quietly. To give students a chance to think and create. To prepare your students to learning through relating the activity to what they are expected to learn at the end of class. To improve learning outcomes. Moving question: Give students a small stack of questions which they turn over one by one and answer in pairs. Before class, brainstorm and compose a list of questions on a theme, which could be specific or wide. Print the list and cut the paper so you have one question per slip of paper. Divide the class into rows or columns. Give each pair in the row or column the same question. Students ask and answer their questions. Create your own roleplay cards. Give each role a character & some background information Let students read their role cards and think for a bit, and then have them act them out with partners without showing their partner their role card. Choose one pair to do in front of the class. Tell students they aren’t speaking as themselves or about their own problems or opinions, they are someone else. Their answers are either short or true or false. Some students are picked out to answer these questions. Teacher asks other students about X OR Y answer.
