Introduction A. Haggai is mentioned in Ezra 5:1 & 6:14. B. Pertinent dates: 1. 536 B.C. - Temple foundation was laid (Ezra 3:1-6) 2. 534 B.C. - Temple construction ceased (Ezra 4:24) 3. 520 B.C. - Haggai and Zechariah prophesied and temple construction resumed (Ezra 5:2; Haggai 1:14, 15) 4. 516 B.C. - Temple completed (Ezra 6:14, 15) Haggai's prophecies were given between Aug. and Dec. of 520 B.C.

What do we know about Haggai? A. Haggai means "festival". Haggai was the first prophet to speak following the Babylonian exile. He returned to Judah with the first group of exiles.

What is the primary message of Haggai?: 

What is the primary message of Haggai? The themes of Haggai are… The people needed to return to work on the Temple. The people needed “to consider” their self-centered ways.
