What do we know about Joel? "Joel" means "the Lord is God". Joel may have been a priest. Joel was a prophet to the Southern Kingdom of Judah (perhaps during the reign of Joash). Nothing else is known about this particular prophet.

When did Joel deliver his prophecy?: 

When did Joel deliver his prophecy? The date was 835 B.C.

Why did God give us the prophecy of Joel?: 

Why did God give us the prophecy of Joel? The purpose of Joel is… To foretell coming judgments upon Judah for her sin. To exhort Judah to turn her heart to the Lord. To impress upon all people that the world's history will culminate in the events of the Day of the Lord, when the scales of justice will finally rest.
