Due to the design of The MAC System and the ELGE heat exchangers that are used with in the system our condensate temperatures can be as low as a 4° F approach on a heating load to as low as 87° F on a DHW load. Standard shell and coils or shell and tube that need a condensate trap to operate properly will have an average condensate temperature of 200° F. With this in mind we would do the following calculation: Domestic Hot Water Load 6155 lb./h of steam in = 12.32 GPM of condensate at 115° F out. This is based on 20 PSI of steam on the primary side and 40° F to 140° F at 118 GPM on the secondary side. In this example a standard heat exchanger will have a 200° condensate using the same as above. 85° F▲T x 500 x 12.32 = 523,600 BTU 523,600 BTU / 100,000 = 5.24 therms per hour 5.24 therms per hour x 10 hrs (average use per day) = 52.40 therms per day 52.40 therms per day x 350 days (average use per year) = 18,340 therms per year 18,430 therms per year x $1.10 per therm (average cost) = $20,174.00 in savings per year
