SHORT STORIES: SHORT STORIES Short does not always mean simple.


Literature is made up of many different forms of genres of writing.: Literature is made up of many different forms of genres of writing. Short Stories Novels Diaries Poetry Essays Myths Legends Folk Tales Drama Letters Novelettes blah blah blah etc.

Length: Length A short story can usually be read in one sitting.


Compression: Compression Short stories focus on one major event, usually resolving a conflict.


Unity: Unity Usually all information revolves around the main conflict.


History and Interesting Stuff: History and Interesting Stuff A short story is a work of fiction meant to entertain. Edgar Allen Poe (1809-1849), 19th century American story writer, is known as the modern orginiator of the short story. The titles of short stories are always written in “quotations”. The titles of novels are always underlined.
