WORK PROJECTS Road Map of Poland 1:300 000 The map was contracted by Reader's Digest Poland as a major contribution to Europe Road Atlas (also encompassing Map of Europe 1:1 000 000, city plans and text). Similar atlases were prepared by other European branches of Reader's Digest. Almost totally digital process of map preparation was divided into two stages. GIS editing: digitization and cartographic editing in AVISO GIS. Publishing stage: final editing in graphic processing software. Polish Academy of Sciences, Department of Cartography and GIS

DEMART Cartographic Publishing House :

DEMART Cartographic Publishing House Popular World Atlas Remarkable Poland (Polish Highways and Byways) Illustrated Atlas of Polish History Some of the projects I was involved in:

Western Michigan UniversityEarth Science and Remote Sensing Facility :

Western Michigan UniversityEarth Science and Remote Sensing Facility My responsibilities include: Producing digital maps and co-registration of satellite images for the Saudi Arabia ground water and landslide projects and placing them on the web. • Editing and maintaining geodatabase and matadata

Aerial Photo Interpretation :

Aerial Photo Interpretation Change in Land Use/Land Cover between 1992 and 2005 with Emphasis on Environmental Problems The project involved: 5-level classification of features Land Use/Land Cover change analysis Spatial interaction data matrix Charts Maps of change Discussion on environmental problems Wetland protection Ground water contamination

Remote Sensing :

Remote Sensing Image Processing Methods used in the project: Image interpretation Spatial Enhancement: 3x3 edge enhancement filter Spectral Enhancement: NDVI, PCA Land Use/Land Cover Change between 1975 and 2005 Classification Unsupervised Change Detection Highlighted change in brightness values Write-Function Memory Insertion Source: LandSat images Software: ERDAS Imagine 9.3

GIS Applications :

GIS Applications GIS Application in Natural Disaster Management Earthquakes and Tsunamis in Honolulu, Hawaii Using the available data and generating a 3D surface model with 3D buildings I simuated flood caused by tsunami and an earthquake and then I determined the shortest evacuation routes to emergency shelters in case of any of these natural disasters.

GIS Project :

GIS Project In this class project „The Concept of the Michigan Tourist Atlas” I reviewed existing atlases and following the principles of atlas and map design I introduced a concept of a new tourist atlas. The sample map presents Washtenaw County (original scale 1:150 000) ©Malgorzata Krawczyk

Spatial Statistics :

Spatial Statistics The project „Statistical analysis of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests in Fulton county, Atlanta, Georgia” consisted of the following steps: Geocoding of addresses Calculating rates Creating maps Performing binary logistic regression in SPSS software. ©Malgorzata Krawczyk

Publishable Quality Paper :

Publishable Quality Paper Assessement of AED Placement in Columbus, Ohio, Using GIS The project was divided into two main parts: Description of the problem and of device GIS Analysis Displaying emergency responders (coordinates taken from Google Map) Identification of clusters - Kernel density - “Near” tool Determining service areas using Network Analyst extension
