Botticelli Sandro Botticelli was born in Florence in1444 and died in 1510.

Interesting Facts The majority of Botticelli’s paintings were religious but his most famous paintings were of mythological creatures. Most people say his paintings weren't realistic enough, but he said that’s the way he wanted it. He was happiest when he mad things beautiful in a fantasy sort of way. His Real Name was Alessandro di Mariano Filipepi. The name Botticelli means ‘Little Barrel ‘. Before taking an interest in art he was trained as a goldsmith by his brother Antonio.
