Gemma Duncan Slide 7: Name: 500 Days Of Summer Genre- Rom- Com Certificate- 12 Titles- The first title to be scene in the opening sequence is of ‘Fox searchlight pictures’. This is to show the distributers of the film so that people recognise them and get well known and because they are the people who have put the most money into the film production, and distribute the film itself to the public. The next title shown is the name of the film. It is a bright white, bold font above an image of buildings being sketched; which makes it stand out and easy to read. The next pops up in the middle of the screen saying the name of the producing company again where it then fades into the black background. The title also comes up at the same time as images showing photographs of the main characters when they were younger. The same affects go for all of the following titles: The main casts names, the casting, the costume designers, the music crew, the film editors, the production designers, the directors of photography, the producers, who the film was written by and the director. Mise en scene- The characters are shown to be old fashioned by the type of hair cuts and the clothes they are wearing. The images show the typical boy and girls bedrooms to show what the characters were like as they grew up. In the girls bedroom there is a mirror and a little chest of drawers. There is also a picture she has made maybe at school stuck to her mirror which shows that she has an interest in art to the viewers. In the boys bedroom there are band posters on the wall, and there is a tv which he is watching which shows that he is a typical young boy. Camera shots- There are a variety of shot types used within the filmed images such as medium –close up shots to show the characters doing various things when they are younger e.g. the girl cutting her hair. There is also a shot where the camera zooms out to follow a girl cart wheeling. Positives- The titles and effects used on the titles work really well as they stand out and are clear and easy to read. The font is plain, however it works with the type of film genre. The way the opening sequence is put together works really well and shows a well thought introduction to the film. The music suits the opening sequence to this type of film as it is a piece of acoustic music. Negatives- There could be more editing used to show more effects on fonts and images. The fonts could also be a bit more artistic as the ones used are quite plain. http://tvshack.cc/movies/_500__Days_of_Summer__2009_/ Slide 8: Along Came Polly Name- Along Came Polly Genre- Rom-com Certificate- 12 Titles- The first title we see is of ‘Universal Pictures’ which shows the viewers who the distributers are of the film. This is the first company to be shown as they funded the film. The title is in a black bold font which fades into the screen word by word. The words then fade into the background where they then disappear. The next company to be shown is of ‘Jersey films’ who produced the film. The same affects applied to the title of the film,, although this time one word appeared at a time on screen, and the word ‘Polly’ is written in yellow font to stand out on the black background. Mise en scene- The whole of the opening sequence has the camera focusing on bright white envelopes and various other wedding stationary and iconic items such as a wedding cake and a wedding cake topping. There is also a crystal clear diamond shown which shows that the characters in the film must be getting married and high maintenance. Camera Shots- There are only close up shots of various wedding items such as a wedding cake, the people stuck on top of the cake, some wedding invites and a diamond. This shows that these must be of some significance to the film. Positives- The camera shots are really clear to show a really detailed picture, and the sequence shows the dominant event happening in the film. The fading effects used on the titles work quite well as they make the sequence look more interesting and professional. Negatives- The opening sequence is very short and doesn’t really show many various camera shots. The whole of the opening sequence only focuses on a wedding theme, it could show some of the characters and other important features of the film other than a wedding. The font they have used on the titles are quite plain; they could have used a more artistic font to make it look more interesting, Slide 9: Name- Avatar Genre- Sci-Fi Certificate- 12 Titles- The first title to be shown is of the distributers ‘20th Century Fox’. This is to show how important they are to the film as they have funded the film and have made the film such a big movie. This title and logo of ’20th Century Fox’ is then faded out to a black background. There aren’t any more titles shown at all in the opening sequence or film. Camera Shots- The first camera shot is an establishing shot showing us the made up location of ‘Pandora’ where the film is set. The camera is made out to be hanging from a helicopter by the visual effects as it moves through trees showing us the over all location of the film. There are a lot of birds eye view shots to show people moving on the ground below; making it look like the people below are up to something. Music- The music played during the opening scene works really well with the film. Although it is a foreign style of music, it still fits the opening scene perfectly. Positives- The visual and computer effects are really well done as they make everything look surreal. The sound effects added in also sound realistic. Negatives- There is no opening sequence as such as Avatar goes straight into the beginning of the film as soon as the title of ‘20th Century Fox’ has gone. There are no titles showing any of the people who took part in the making of the film, and no title that even says the name of the film. There also isn’t any music in the background of the start of the film which gives the introduction of the film a very silent and almost boring beginning. http://tvshack.cc/movies/Avatar__2009_/ Slide 10: Name- Titanic Genre- Drama/ History/ Romance Certificate- 12 Titles- The first title to be shown is the name of the distributers which is ‘20th Century Fox’. This is because this company had one of the most important roles in making the film as without them, the film would not have had funding and would not be shown as successfully as it had been. The next shot to be shown is of the production company ‘Lightstorm Entertainment’. This is shown overlapping the shots playing in the background as a white bold font which makes it stand out on the sepia image behind. There is then a title saying ‘Titanic’ which is the name of the film. This is against a background of the ocean waves moving, and the white bold font used for this title makes it stand out against the dark ocean water. The title is written in a bold spaced out, clear font which makes the title very obvious to the viewers. The font is quite old looking as it is has a brown outline. The title starts off being very transparent so you can clearly see the waves behind it moving, although it gradually becomes more translucent so that the waves are not so visible and to make the title become the more dominant feature of the page. Mise en scene- As the first camera shots are showing a crowd of people waving bye to the Titanic ship we can see that the people are dressed in old fashioned clothes such as suits and flat hats, we can also see women in big coats and a man standing with a wind up video camera. This shows the viewers roughly the time that the film is set in and a slight idea of what the characters in the film will be like. When the image of the ocean is shown, there is a very low level light which shows that it is night time on the Titanic boat. Camera Shots- The first camera shot to be used is a wide angled panning shot showing a crowd of people at a docks waving good bye to the Titanic ship pulling away from the dock. This is shown in an old looking sepia effect which makes it look like it is old real footage. The shots fade out into the next shot which gives it a smooth transition each time. There are a lot of medium shots used to show people waving on the boat to the crowd waving good-bye to the people on the boat. There is then an establishing shot showing the ocean which shows us the location of the film. Positives- The idea of giving the images shown at the start of the sequence a sepia old affect makes it look like real footage and works well with the time location the film is set in. Negatives- Although the film was made a long time ago, the font used on the main ‘Titanic’ title is quite plain and boring. http://tvshack.cc/movies/Titanic__1997_/ Slide 11: Name- Juno Genre- Comedy/ Drama Certificate- PG Titles- There are no titles throughout the whole of the opening sequence. Mise en scene- The girl is carrying a 2 litre bottle of orange juice and is wearing quite dull coloured clothes to give an impression of her characteristics. She doesn’t wear any make up and has her hair tied back which suggests to us that she is a school girl. Camera Shots- The first camera shot to be used is of the main character walking down the road. For this shot they have used a tracking medium shot which follows her walking. There is also a low level shot showing the girls feet standing on a pavement, with her feet walking across the screen behind. There is then a low angled shot looking up towards a street light and birds flying in the background. A match on action shot it used to show the girl walking down a drawn out road, where the drawing then erases and drawers back a new building where she is standing about to cross a road. Positives- The music used is an acoustic song playing throughout the whole of the opening sequence. This song goes very well with the style of the film as it is suited to teenagers-just like the film. The effects used to show the filmed sequence as a drawing works really well as has a smooth transition as the affect takes over the screen, and as it disappears. This also makes the film look more professional as most other films do not use this effect in their opening sequence; it makes it unique. Negatives- The lighting is quite low when there are no affects added to the sequence. This makes the picture very dark and hard to see, although it does suggest an autumn/winters day. There are no titles showing titles shown at all during the opening sequence which means we don’t know who the distributers or any of the producers or casting crew were. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20PQBtyfNZY Slide 12: Name- Johnny English Genre- Action/ Adventure/ Comedy Certificate- PG Titles- The first title we see is of the distributers ‘Universal’. This is to show the importance of the company and to show who made the film so well known and successful. There is then a title of ‘Studio Canal’ who also worked in partnership with Universal to help distribute the film. There is then a third title of the financing company called ‘Working Title’. The forth title to be shown is of the distributers Universal and Studio Canal again to show their importance in the making of the film. The next title to appear is the name of the main actorRowan Atkinson. This font used for his name is in a silver colour and in a large bold font. This title comes in from the right hand side of the page and stops in the bottom centre of the page . It then has a sparkle and light affect and stays on the screen for about two seconds where it then shoots off the screen on the left hand side. The next title is of the film name ‘Johnny English’. This title also appears in the bottom centre of the screen although this time it is revealed in a diamond shape from the centre of the title. This also has a sparkle and light affect where it then changes colour to red, white and blue. This may be because of the film name ‘Johnny ENGLISH’ and may also be because it is a British film and because the film is set in London. The rest of the titles shown are in the exact same font and have the same affects as the one used for ‘Johnny English’; Although this time It states the names of the other cast members , casting, the visual effects supervisor, the music supervisor, Robbie Williams ( who performed the main title song), the person who chose the music, the costume designer, the hair and make-up designer, the editor, the production designer, the director of photography, the associate producer, the co-producers, the people who wrote the script, the producers and the director. Mise en scene- The main character called Johnny English is given a childish and serious look. When he is first shown he is dressed in a black and white suit, although when he is at home he is wearing a vest and shorts; and is acting quite immaturely. There are small hand held guns shown in a close up shot which symbolises the type of job the main character has in the film. Camera Shots- There are a few medium shots to show Johnny English and a few close ups to show his face in detail. There is one extreme close-up of his nose and eye to really show his facial expression as he is jogging on a running machine. There are a couple of panning out shots and example of this is when Johnny English is sitting on the sofa reading a book. The music is quite upbeat and modern which is played whilst we meet Johnny English. This goes well with his character and the film as he seems quite funny and happy throughout the opening sequence. The music is played throughout the whole opening sequence where it then slowly gets quieter and fades away once all of the titles have been displayed. There is a match on action shot of Johnny English walking towards a door to a building, where it cuts and then shows him walking down a corridor just inside of the building. Positives- I think that the music went quite well with the film as it suited the main character due to the up beat tempo and modern genre. I also think that the sound and visual affects were really well done to the opening sequence e.g. the bomb explosion. Negatives- All of the titles have the same sparkle affect, so to make it more interesting the company could use more affects on different titles. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDrIGdCMwT4 Slide 13: Name- Toy Story Genre- Animation/ Children's Certificate- PG Titles- The first title to be shown is of ‘Walt Disney Pictures’ which is to show the distributers and the main company who funded the making of the film. The next title is of ‘Pixar Animations’ which shows the animation company who helped to create the film. The next title shown is again of Walt Disney Pictures. There is then the Film title ‘Toy Story’. The word ‘Toy’ is in a bright yellow bold font which is outlined in blue which makes it stand out and eye catching. The word story is also in a bold yellow font, however this is placed on a bright red obscure square shape. Once again this stands out as the yellow, blue and red colours clash. They are also simple colours which will easily stick in peoples mind which means they will easily remember the name of the film. ‘Pixar production’ comes up next in a simple plain white and black colour which appears in the middle of the screen where it then fades out after about three seconds. With the same fonts used, the following titles come up: the executive producers, the supervising technical director, the music, the song writers and performers, the original story writers, the screenplay, the producers, and the director. Mise En Scene- There isn’t really much mise en scene as it is all animated, however the child’s bedroom is full of toys which shows that they are still young and have a good imagination. Music- At the beginning of the opening sequence the camera focuses on a ‘bad’ toy in the film. During the shot of the toy quite low pitched beats of music are played. Although when the ‘hero’ toy is shown on camera the music changes to a high tempo, higher pitch tone to suggest that this is a good toy in the film. There is then the song ‘you’ve got a friend in me’ which goes with the whole theme of the film of having a toy as a child's best friend. Camera Shots- The first camera shot used is of a high level shot of the top of a bedroom wall, where it then pans out and moves down to a low level shot moving across the floor of the bedroom where it then shows a close up of a wanted poster. There are quite a few close up shots of the characters faces. Positives- The visual, computer and sound effects are really well done as the people created in the film look realistic and the sound effects do sound quite real. Negatives- The fonts used to show the titles are quite plain and boring as they only have a simple colour scheme of black and white. To make them look more effective they could be changed to different colours. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zB2gPZRsz0Q Slide 14: Name- Spongebob Square Pants Genre- Animation/ Adventure/ Comedy/ Family Certificate- U Titles- The first title we see is of the main distributers ‘Paramount’. We also then have the Nickelodeon title to show the producers of the film. We then once again have the title of Paramount pictures shown in a black, almost roman style font which is quite unusual for a children's animation film. This title is over a background image of some clouds and a blue sky; making it eye catching and clear to read. Following this, we have Nickelodeon Movies Production shown again in the same black font on the same background. Mise en Scene- The characters have parrots on their shoulders, wear eye patches and have hooks for hands. This is to show us that they are meant to be pirates. We can also see this through the type of striped clothes they are also wearing. Music- There isn’t as such a song playing, although there is a bit of orchestral music played to create suspense and tension at the pirates. Camera Shots- The first camera shot we have is a low angle shot looking up at the sky and birds. We then have a high level shot watching a pirate looking through a telescope on the ladder of a ship. This then zooms in to focus on to his face. We then see the camera have a framed shot looking at a little paddle boat in the ocean. The reason for using this framed shot is to create a sense of first person; where the audience are looking at what the characters see. Positives- The visual affects are quite well put together as it all runs smoothly. Negatives- Some of the sounds affects sound computerised, and also some of the costumes look unrealistic. http://tvshack.cc/movies/The_Spongebob_Squarepants_Movie__2004_/ Slide 15: http://tvshack.cc/movies/Shrek__2001_/ Name- Shrek Genre- Comedy/ Animation Certificate- U Titles- The first title we see is of ‘Dreamwork Pictures’ which instantly shows the distributors and funders of the films. This title is a plain white font placed on a black background so that it easily stands out, stays for a couple of seconds and then fades out. The next title shows the cooperation company ‘ A PDI/Dreamworks Production’ which shows that the two company's worked together to produce the film Shrek. The film name is then shown as an imprint left in some muddy water. This affect goes well with the ogres habitation. The word ‘Shrek’ is in a green, water looking font, which may be to do with the orgre’s skin colour. The ‘S’ in the work Shrek has some ogre ears on the top, which also relates to the plot of the film, the films name, and the main character. There is then the main voice over person’s name written in a mud looking text effect which makes the text look very interesting from a normal plain font. The next title we see is of another voice over person, but this time his name is engraved into the bark of a tree. The next name is shown as water plants floating in a lake, and the following in the form of maggots. There are no more titles displayed after this. Mise En Scene- There are things like mud, trees, and boulders dotted around the main characters house, showing us that the character must be dirty and live in an isolated place. Music- The music played throughout the opening sequence works really well with the type of film as it is really upbeat. Camera Shots- Right at the beginning of the sequence, we see a close up of a book, and all of the pages shown. This is to show that the book is an important feature which the film makers wish the audience to see. We then have a low angle, medium shot looking up on the ogre as he steps out of the toilet. There is then an establishing shot of the ogres home, which shows us the location of the story. Positives- Right at the beginning of the opening scene, there is a dark background with a projected light shining on a book from the ceiling. This puts the main focus on the book as the use for this light is very effective. Negatives- Some of the visual affects such as the water look very computerised. Slide 16: Name- Love Actually Genre- Comedy/ Drama/ Romance Certificate- 15 Titles- The first title we see is of ‘Universal Pictures’ and ‘Studio Canal’ who are the distributers of the film Love Actually. This title is in a plain white modern font, however the names of the distributers are in capital letters to make them stand out even more. The titles are displayed over an image of a crowd in an air port. The next title to be shown is of ‘Working Title’ who are the production company of the film. Again, this is in the same plain white modern font, and is still over the crowd in the air port. The words ‘Working Title’ are in capital letters to also show their importance and to make their name stand out and be recognised by the public. There is another title showing the name of the film, and also a few words more. These words (love actually is all around) come up on the screen one by one in a white font, as a narrator speaks these words to the audience. The word ‘is’ shows up as a red font, which is to relate to the theme of love in the film, and also because of the colour scheme used for the film name. This phrase then fades out until it disappears from the last word, to the third, where the words ‘Love Actually’ ( the film’s name) is left and the word ‘Love’ changes from a white font to a red font and gets gradually bigger. Both words then fade out into a black background. Camera Shots- The first camera shot to be shown is a close up of couple in a crowd in an Air port. We then have a shot which zooms out on another lady who is greeting her children from the arrivals section, where it then zooms in on one of the child's face as she hugs her mum. It also pans slightly to the left to keep the child in view of the camera shot. There is an ending close up shot of three people hugging, where you can only see the top of their shoulders and their heads. This then fades in to a black background. Mise En Scene- There are a few suitcases around which shows the location of the opening sequence set in an air port. Music- There is a slow, high pitch orchestral tune being played in the background of this opening sequence to symbolise the sadness and happiness of the crowds of people being shown in the sequence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3GWzLpkVdg Slide 17: Name- Bridget Jones Genre- Comedy/ Drama/ Romance Certificate- 15 Titles- The first two titles used in the opening sequence are of ‘Universal’ and ‘Studio Canal’ who are the distributers of the film. Thirdly, there is a title of ‘Miramax Films’ who helped to produce and distribute Love Actually. The fourth is of ‘Working Title’ who also helped to produce the film. All of these titles are in an orange hand written type font which stand out on the low lit, background image of a house. There is then the main actors and actresses names in the same hand written orange font, followed by the casting crew, the line producer, the music supervisor, the co-produces, the original score writer, the costume designer, the production designer, the editor, the director of photography, the executive producer, the screenplay, the producers, the directors. The film name then appears in a bold orange font, and in big lettering so that it stands out really well on the dull coloured background which then fades out into a black background; Camera Shots- There aren’t really many varied shots in the opening sequence, but the main ones were medium and wide shots. The wide shots are to show the main character dancing and miming a song in her living room. Mise En Scene- They have given the main character a Tesco carrier bag to carry her things in, and she is wearing trainers and has her hair up when she is going out, to show a type of woman who is quite laid back about her appearance and gives the impression that she doesn’t make much of an effort when she goes out. There is also a quite old fashioned decorated house to show the characteristics of some of the characters. The house also has Christmas decorations up to show which time location the film is set in. Music- The song ‘All by myself’ is playing whilst the main character is talking about her life story of being lonely and depressed. This works really well with this part of the sequence as it makes the audience feel sympathy towards the main character. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0D0zfB1l1x0 Slide 18: Name- Dirty Dancing Genre- Drama/ Romance Certificate- 12 Titles- The first titles to be seen are bright pink and italic, showing the producers of the film ‘Vestron Pictures, and Great American Films Partnership’. This title is shown on a dark grey and white background so that it shows up really well to the audience. The next title is of the ‘Dirty Dancing’ film name, which takes up the size of the screen so that the viewers can clearly see the film name. There are then the main actor and actresses names displayed in the same fonts on screen, followed by the casting, the associate producer, the production designer, the costume designer, the music supervisor, the musical score, the choreography, the director of photography, the editor, the executive producers, the co-producer, the producer and the writer. Camera Shots- The whole of the camera shots are black and white close up of a couples faces dancing together and medium shots of people dancing on a dance floor. Mise En Scene- All of the females are wearing short dresses, or crop tops and shorts to show that they are dancers, and the males are wearing trousers and shirts. Music- There is an old fashioned piece of music playing which suits the film as it sounds like a piece of music you could dance to. Positives- The slow motion affect on the camera shots work really well to give the opening scene a different affect from most others. Negatives- The black and white effect gets kind of boring after a while, they should have explored different techniques to use. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PYbEEVR8-64 Slide 19: Name- Saw IV Genre- Crime/ Horror/ Thriller Certificate- 18 Titles- The first title we see is of ‘Twisted Pictures’. The font used on this title is a white glowing modern font, which stands out on the plain black background it fades in to. The next title shows the producers ‘Burg/ Koules/ Hoffman’ with the same font, but with a light affect added, where it then fades in to the black background. The title is also repeated in the background but in a really big font, and has no light affects. The main title of the film doesn’t come up until just after nine minutes, but the words ‘SAW IV’ is in the same affect as the rest of the other titles. Just before this title comes up, the pictures fade to a black background where the title then gradually appears on screen. Camera Shots- The first camera shot is of a close up on a corpse’ foot, where it then pans up the body. There are then extreme close-ups of operation tools, such as a saw and a knife. There is then a depth of field shot with a shallow focus showing the corpse’ foot again in the focus, and the rest of his body in the background. There is a wide shot to show the operation table with the corpse laying on, and a surgeon who is about to perform the operation. It also shows part of the dirty looking operation room. Mise En Scene- There are a lot of medical instruments used on operations on a table next to a corpse. This is to show where the opening scene is set; an operation room. There is a very low key lighting, with low tones to make the images seem a lot darker and more gloomy to create a sense of anxiety and suspense to the viewer. Music- There is some music playing in the background but it is like a choir piece, and is very low toned. This is to add to the atmosphere of the suspense and coldness of the scene. Positives- The very detailed shallow focus shots work really well to show the detail in the corpse’s body which adds to the anxiety and horror of the film. Negatives- The titles use all of the same font, they could make them relate more to the films genre of horror, by making the fonts maybe blood looking and more interesting. http://tvshack.cc/movies/Saw_IV__2007_/ Slide 20: Name- Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone Genre- Adventure/ Family/ Fantasy/ Mystery Certificate- PG Titles- The only title shown in the opening sequence is of the name of the film ‘Harry Potter and the philosophers Stone’. This title is in a bright yellow/orange colour font, and in an old fashioned style. However the ‘P’ in Potter has a lighting bolt in the lettering which makes the font a lot more interesting than it would have been without it. Camera Shots- At first there is a low-angled shot showing the name of a road where the film is set. There is then an establishing shot showing part of a street with trees and a street light. There is then a medium shot which follows one of the main characters in the film. This shot then tilts down to focus on a close- up of a cat sitting on a pavement. There is also an extreme close- up of Harry Potter’s forehead focusing mainly on the lightning bolt shaped scar. Mise En Scene- There is a pair of glasses which the main character wears, who also has a scar which tends to get focused on. There is also an envelope containing a letter which is shown important in the opening sequence. Right at the beginning of the opening sequence we have a lot of low key lighting which adds to the night time effect of the camera shots. Music- There is a very strong, orchestral type music played throughout the opening sequence which adds to the atmosphere and drama created right at the beginning. Positives- The lighting effects used to pin point certain items such as a letter is used well to make certain things stand out which have a significant part of the film. The visual affects are also very realistic e.g. when the street lamps light gets taken away. The lightning and thunder storm background also looks very affective when the film name ‘Harry Potter’ is shown on screen as well as the sound effects of the thunder. Negatives- Sometimes there is too much low level lighting which means some of the detail is taken away in some camera shots as the picture is too dark to see. http://tvshack.cc/movies/Harry_Potter_and_the_Sorcerer_s_Stone__2001_/ Slide 21: Name- Bride Wars Genre- Comedy/ Romance Certificate- 12 Titles- The first title to be shown is of ‘Fox 2000 Pictures’ and ‘Regency Enterprises’ who are the distributers of the film Bride Wars. These company’s also fund the making of the film. This title is a modern black font which looks kind of like a girls hand writing, which goes with the girly-themed film. We then have a title showing the producers ‘New Regency/ Birdie/ Riche Ludwig, these are shown in the same font style, but this time the font is white. The word ‘Bride’ then comes up as if it is being written on the screen in calligraphy. This is also a white font but this time it looks like a font you would write wedding invite in. The word ‘WARS’ then comes up in capitals, and in a bold font which appears as a whole word in one go. This is to contradict the prettiness of the word ‘bride’ which is written in lower-case fancy writing, to have a plain bold font saying the word ‘wars’ in capitals. We then have the names of all the Actors and Actresses who starred in the film in the same original white styled font. There is then the names of all the casting crew, the music supervisor, the music, the costume designer, the editor (in black font), the production designer, the director of photography ( in black font again), the executive producers (also in black font), the producers, the story write, the screenplay and the director. Camera Shots- At first we have a close up of a box full of ‘wedding things’. This is to represent the theme of the whole film. We then have an extreme close-up shot of the hinge holding the wooden box together. This is also a depth of field shallow shot, because the hinge is shown in perfect detail, where as the rest of the box further away from the camera is blurred. There is then another extreme close up but this time of some white lace sitting inside the box. The next is another close up of the bride and groom figurines which go on top of a wedding cake; this shows the a lot of detail such as every sparkle of glitter on the brides dress. Mise En Scene- There is a lot of wedding stationery left around, and also the ‘wedding things’ box shown in the first camera shot is decorated with lots of careful details, which shows us that the characters in the film are conscious of every small detail possible. All of the images are in high key tones, which makes the pictures very brightly coloured, and very detailed. Music- The music seems very girly and modern which suits the genre and plot of the film. Positives- I think that the extreme close up shots are very effective as they pay a lot of attention to detail in the shots. I also think that the fonts used are quite nice as they aren’t all the same styles and colours; they vary quite a lot. Negatives- There aren’t many varied shot types used, and no establishing shots right at the start of the opening scene, so you don’t know where the film is set until later on. http://tvshack.cc/movies/Bride_Wars__2009_/ Slide 22: Name- Dr .Do Little 2 Genre- Comedy/ Family/ Romance Certificate- PG Titles- The first title is of ‘20th Century Fox’ which is in a plain white and black outlined font. The font is quite old fashioned looking which makes it look quite old. The next title we see is using the same font showing the producers ‘Davis Entertainment Company’. The next titles are of the Actors and Actresses names. Each title fades out into the background, and uses the same font styles and colours as all of the other titles use. The titles to be shown next are of the casting members, the music composers and conductors Camera Shots- The first camera shot is an establishing shot showing a tram moving up a steep road coming from a beach. The camera then moves along the road making it look like you are looking out of the tram. There is then a low angled shot; still looking out of the tram, looking up at a bridge, and then the tops of houses. Mise En Scene- When the main character is in a Vets, he is wearing a stethoscope to show how important and good the main character is at his job. Music- There is an orchestral quite song playing in the background, which works well when Dr. Do Little is talking to a dog and he says that he is a stray. This makes the audience feel sad and give sympathy to the dog. A lot of the images have high key lighting, which makes the over all opening sequence quite bright, interesting and colourful. Positives- The back ground images of the establishing shots work really to make the titles stand out, and the animations of the animals and sounds work well. Negatives- The title styles are quite boring, they could have used different font styles and colours for each of the titles to make them a bit more interesting. Slide 23: Name- The Simpsons Movie Genre- Animation/ Adventure/ Comedy Certificate- PG Titles- The first title shown is of the name of the film ‘the Simpsons’. This is in a bright, bold eye catching font, which stands out really well on the pale blue and white sky background. The title of the film is in a yellow font to relate with the colour of the character’s skin. Camera Shots- There is a medium shot of one of the main characters standing up in a cinema which then zooms in to his face, where he then fades in to the background. There is then an establishing shot of the whole of ‘Springfield’ which is the city of the film is set in. There are a lot of zooming shots which focus on different parts of the Springfield city e.g. The Kwikimart, the School, and a rock concert. At the rock concert there is a low angled shot to show the name of the band playing on stage, where it then tilts to show the singers on stage performing. Music- The theme tune is played at the beginning of the theme which shows Positives- The sound effects and visual effects are very well done. There are any faults with them and they all run smoothly, especially when the characters talk; their voices are exactly in time with the movement of their mouths. Negatives- The cat and mouse scene right at the start is very violent. http://tvshack.cc/movies/The_Simpsons_Movie__2007_/ Slide 24: Name- Shark Tale Genre- Animation/ Comedy/ Family Certificate- U Titles- The first title to be shown is of ‘Dreamworks’ who were the distributers of the film. This font replicates the yellow and red title of the film name above. We then have the voice over actors and actresses which are shown one by one, and are in the same yellow and red font. As soon as one name has faded out and gone, the next one automatically appears in another place on the screen. We then have the title of the film shown in the same style font, but with a shark’s in cut out of one of the letters. This film name appears on screen, where it then has a ripple affect like a wave, where it then finally disperses and disappears off the screen. Camera Shots- Right at the beginning of the sequence the camera focuses on a worm being put onto a hook on a fishing line, and thrown into the sea. The camera follows the worm, where it then has a close up of the worms face to show its facial expressions. We then have an extreme close-up of the sharks teeth to show that the worm is in a lot of danger. There is a close up shot of a ‘taxi fish’ which is then followed by a tracking shot, as it swims in the sea. Music- The music playing sounds quite happy, which shows that the film is enjoyable to all ages and has nothing bad or scary. Mise En Scene- Some of the fish are painted in taxi colours, which shows that the fish are like transport in the ocean. Positives- The title of the film name has a sharks fin shape cut out of the ‘h’ in Shark. This is very effective as it suits the name of the film ‘Sharks Tale’. Also, the sound affects are done really well as they sound very realistic and are in perfect time with the animation. E.G. When the worm flung into the ocean, it creates a splash. The animation is also created very well as it runs smoothly and looks quite realistic and looks almost 3D. Negatives- The title is a plain colour with no added effects, so to improve the company could add some effects to make it look more interesting and stand out more. http://tvshack.cc/movies/Shark_Tale__2004_/ Slide 25: Name- Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Genre- Action/ Adventure/ Sci-Fi/ Thriller Certificate- 12 Titles- The first titles to be shown are of ‘Dreamworks Pictures’ and ‘Paramount Pictures’; the distributers of the film. These titles are in a metal looking font style, which really goes with the robot nature of the film. These titles also have a light affect which shines from the left of the title, to the right where the titles then disappear. The next title to appear is of ‘Hasbro’ who help to promote Transformers. This title is in the same metal colour font, with another light affect used. The font then disappears with the background into black. Camera Shots- At first, there is an establishing shot where the camera is held on a helicopter as it flies over a picturesque landscape; showing the location of the film. We then see a close up of two dogs sitting on a wooden floor. There is then a high angle shot of a pretty house on a summers day. We get the idea that it is a summers day due to the high key lighting used. There is then a close-up shot of the main characters mum’s face, to show her crying. Music- There isn’t any music playing, however there are mechanical sounds which I think is quite effective. Positives- I think the sound effects of the robot sounds edited over the Dreamworks and paramount logos works really well. I also think all of the sound effects throughout the whole of the opening sequence work really well also, ad give the film a more interesting approach. Negatives- I think there should be more titles to help promote all of the company’s who were involved in the making of Transformers. I also think there should be a song played to make the opening sequence a bit more interesting. http://tvshack.cc/movies/Transformers__2007_/ You do not have the permission to view this presentation. I also think there should be a song played to make the opening sequence a bit more interesting. http://tvshack.cc/movies/Transformers__2007_/
