Intra AACI CentresWeb Conference :

Intra AACI CentresWeb Conference We’d like to share and explore: a presentation of the British author Benjamin Zephaniah as it was done in some FCE courses before plunging students into the reading of one of his novels “Face”. the possibility of getting students to become familiar with aspects of the life/ideology of a writer and to “meet” him: listen to his words/his voice, watch live performances, and read other of his works. Show that the NET offers innumerable resources to spark off teenage interest and increase motivation

Theoretical Framework :

Theoretical Framework Would you agree with the position some critics hold who say the more you know about an artist (writer, painter, singer, composer) the more you can profit from his/her piece of work? Aspects to be known: his ideology, his background, tragedies or any other type of memorable experience. Think of your students in terms of motivation and/or deeper understanding

Raymond Carver :

Raymond Carver After reading Raymond Carver’s biography and learning about some serious aspects of his tragic life and unfortunately short literary career, does the understanding of the poem dedicated to his father: A- become more confusing? B- become more revealing & telling? C- remain neutral, as if I hadn’t read anything?

Vegan Steven Apart from the fact that it´s interesting to learn about the difference between vegetarian, vegan, carnivorous diet, etc., what lines of discussions would you say this poem may trigger off? If you have read the novel, you may know that there’s a strong link in terms of theme. So a poem may anticipate an argument of a novel

FACE :

FACE The teenage novels 'Face' was the first of four novels written by Benjamin Zephaniah in 1999. These novels proved that teenage boys would read if they have access to books that they can relate to. Zephaniah writes gritty, realistic novels about the lives of teenagers. These novels are directed to adults as much as they are to teenagers.Benjamin Zephaniah has inspired many young writers and many generations of rappers, and of all the performance poets that emerged in the late seventies/early eighties he is one of the few that is still going strong.
